If I know what is your question
3 2/3 is a mixed number that contains whole number part of 3 , and fraction part is 2/3
3 2/3 equals 3 + 2/3
Say there are 11 apples that you want to distribute equally among 3 kids
11 ÷ 3 = 3 + ...
after you give 3 apples to each kid 3* 3 = 9
11 - 9 = 2 , there are 2 apples left that can't take any more 3 from it, then you split 2 apples into 3
equal parts and give each kid 2/3 of apple:
Then 11 ÷ 3 = 3 + 2/3 so each kid gets 3 +2/3 apples.
Now : 11 = 3 *3 + 2
So we write division equal with fraction:
11 / 3 splitting 11 apples into 3 equal parts , and call that improper fraction.
11/ 3 = 3 2/3
By carrying the division we convert Improper fraction into mixed number , and keep the whole
number and the fraction separate from each other, and use the fraction sign (/) with division sign
interchangeably.
3 2/3 + 2 2/3 = 5 + 2/3 + 2/3 = 5 +4/3 = 5 + 1 + 1/3 = 6 1/3
In addition we also keep the whole number and fraction separate from each other, and perform the
operation separately.
