Although you do not specify what you need to understand about ionic bonding, the general topic is explained. Ionic bonding comes from ions. Ions are atoms that either gain electrons to become negatively charged call anions or positively charged atoms called cations. A simple example is sodium chloride, or NaCl. Sodium atoms obtain a +1 charge when they donate their electron to the chlorine atom, giving it a -1 charge. The negatively charged chlorine atoms now has an extra electron and becomes anion and the sodium atom is a cation. Since opposite charges attract each other, a columbic force holds these ions together along with other ions to form a crystal lattice. The electrons are tightly bound with the ions and are not shared.

Though I do not know specifically your question here, I will say that ionic bonding is a type of bond formed between two atoms usually with varying electronegativity. For example, let's take the compound Sodium Chloride (NaCl). Na is on the far left side of the Periodic Table and Cl is on the far right. Chlorine has a very high electronegativity (recall, electronegativity increases as you go right and up on the Periodic Table) and Sodium has a low electronegativity. The difference in this electronegativity attracts the two different atoms together and produces the compound, in this example, Sodium Chloride.
