It's not quite clear how you've stated this, but I believe it's a ratio problem that looks like the following:

          53/7 : 7

If this is the case, you want to get rid of the fraction on the left side. To do this, simply multiply both sides by 7:

       7 * (53/7) : (7) * 7

53 : 49    ,   and this is your answer since it cannot be simplified further.

Ok. So you have (53) / (7:7).

To simplify this, the ratio 7:7 is equivalent to 1:1.

Do determine the # of parts the ratio is composed of you add its components. That is, 1+1 = 2 parts.

Divide 53 by the # of parts (2) to find the value per part, which yields 53/2 and cannot be simplified any further. This value means that each part of the ratio has a value of 53/2.

Then multiply this value by each component of the ratio:

     (53/2) * 1 = 53/2

     (53/2) * 1 = 53/2

You can verify this answer by adding these two values:

         (53/2) + (53/2) = 106/2 = 53

If you were to keep the 7:7 ratio and use it to work out the problem in the same manner, you would arrive at the same answer.

Hope that helped!
