I am hypothesizing this is a question similar to ones one of my students was doing recently. Is (-2,1) a solution for the equations? Is the first equation y=-1/2x?. If it is, then yes, (-2,1) is a solution. If you plug in the values of -2 for x and 1 for y, then both equations work and the point is where the two lines intersect.
Hope this helps

Connie,
What you wrote is not a problem, just two linear equations and coordinates of the point on the plane. What is the question?
