Bio

Currently my service in the Tunbridge community is as a DivorceCare Leader and volunteer. I moved to this area from Harrisburg PA after serving as a Technology Director for twelve years at Penn State University - Harrisburg Campus.

Competencies:

* Excel. 12 years experience using Excel to manage and update budgets. Currently: Using Excel to update and manage my own personal budget after taking nine-week course called Financial Peace University from Dave Ramsey.

* Music Theory. Studied music theory and earned bachelor's and master's degrees in Music. Practical experience teaching music theory including: key signatures, time signatures, rhythm, circle of fifths, intervals, ear training for people who want to sing with a group.

Fifteen of my professional years are as an instructional technology manager. Students have rated my teaching skills well as a college adjunct instructor. Students took courses in computer fundamentals, building their own computer in teams. They also studied with me for computer networking.

Most of the experience my gift has given me is learning from the students as much as I teach them.

My perseverance come from hours in the practice room as a trombonist. Research skills come from many, many hours over years in university and public libraries.

Students like to work with me because they know I genuinely care about them and put them first.

I like to work with students because of the personal satisfaction of seeing them grow, improve and prepare.

Several of my students have gone into professional fields far surpassing what I taught them in college. I'm very proud of them.

As Director of Technology for the Hardin County Schools in Elizabethtown, KY from 1993 to 1996 I was responsible for the budgeting and implementation of technology for all schools in the district. Excel was the tool of choice for my management of the budget including presentations to the school board and technology coordinators in each of the schools. As Director of Instructional and Information Technologies at Penn State Harrisburg, my experience with Excel was used for life cycle planning of technology equipment replacement. The budgets that Excel was used to track at both Hardin County Schools and Penn State University each were in excess of $800,000.

I am especially interested in teaching adult learners to use email and share families' information through social networking. If someone would like to learn the multimedia capabilities of a computer, I can help them with that also.

My teaching experience with music theory included teaching high school students music theory at Baltimore Lutheran High School. I took four music theory courses from Valparaiso University and one Eastern New Mexico University. Grades from Valparaiso Univesity were, A-, C, B, and B. Grade from Eastern New Mexico Univesity was B.

My Bachelor's degree is in music education from Valparaiso University. I played trombone in the university jazz band, university wind ensemble, and traveled with the university wind ensemble as a soloist playing Rimsky-Korsakov's "Concerto for Trombone" going on to be band director at Baltimore Lutheran High School. My Master's degree is in Music from Eastern New Mexico University. Serving as a graduate assistant, I directed marching band sectionals and played in marching band, jazz band and concert band. With post graduate work in Music at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, I studied music history, statistics for education, music curriculum and played in a brass quintet.
