Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

The Math section on the ACT is different from SAT Math sections. The student and I can review the structure of the ACT Math test and work toward achieving the student's goals.

Algebra 1

I have both taught and tutored Algebra I for many years. I am familiar with many Algebra textbooks and I am comfortable tutoring all topics in Algebra I. I especially enjoy helping students get the most from their calculators. I can also provide remediation if the student needs to improve basic skills needed to be successful in Algebra.

Algebra 2

I have both taught and tutored Algebra II for many years. I am familiar with many Algebra textbooks used in this area and I am comfortable tutoring all topics in Algebra II. I especially enjoy helping students get the most from their calculators. Together, the student and I can work to get ready for the SOL exam. I can also provide remediation if the student needs to improve basic skills needed to be successful in Algebra II.

ASVAB

Being successful on the ASVAB is about more than the content. It's about understanding the structure of the test and about problem solving. We can work on any or all of those areas: content review, problem solving and test taking strategies.

Chemistry

I have an undergraduate minor in chemistry. I completed the general and organic chemistry undergraduate course sequence. I've also completed classes in quantitative analysis, biochemistry and physical chemistry.

Elementary Math

I have tutored elementary students in Mathematics for several years. I can tailor my tutoring to the specific needs and learning style of the student.

Elementary Science

As a child, I loved science. For me, the world was like a giant puzzle where science gave me one piece at a time. I can help your child learn about the world around him/her--and start his/her own puzzle.

GED

Let me help you to prepare for this life-changing exam. I can work with you to review all aspects of the GED.

Geometry

A student often fears Geometry, when all he or she needs to be successful is a little extra help provided in a way that is compatible with that student's learning style. I provide that individualized instruction. I have taught and tutored Geometry for many years. I am familiar with the curriculum and am comfortable tutoring all aspects of the course.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra is such an important class. I have tutored a variety of students in Prealgebra and I am comfortable tutoring all topics in the course. I can individualize instruction, based on the student's learning style. I can also provide remediation if the students needs to work on basic skills.

Precalculus

I have experience tutoring and I am comfortable tutoring all topics in Precalculus. I can also provide review if the student needs to improve prerequisite skills.

PSAT

For many students, the PSAT is the first major exam they take. I can help students understand the structure of the PSAT, develop goals and strategies to work toward achieving those goals.

SAT Math

I can help the student understand the structure of the test, develop goals and strategies to work toward achieving those goals.

SAT Reading

I can help the student understand the types of questions in the reading section of the SAT and develop strategies for answering those questions. Together, the student and I will build vocabulary needed to improve performance.

SAT Writing

I can help the student understand the types of questions in the writing section of the SAT. Together, the student and I will review grammar, practice proofreading and editing questions. We will also practice writing essays.

SOL

As an experienced classroom teacher and tutor, I have helped students to prepare for math SOL exams since the inception of these exams. To impart general SOL test-taking strategies, I've used worksheet review materials, on-line reviews and previously released exams to help students prepare. I design a strategy based on the specific needs of the student.

Trigonometry

I have both taught and tutored Trigonometry. It is my favorite high school math class. I am comfortable tutoring all topics in Trigonometry. I can also provide review if the student needs to improve prerequisite skills.
