I can help you in over 45 different subjects. As one of the most experienced and most highly rated local tutors, I guarantee satisfaction with my classes. Math and business courses are my specialty; I also tutor programming, physics, piano, and other subjects.
I have experience dealing with all ages and levels; the youngest I have tutored was a six-year-old needing help with elementary math while the oldest was a 54-year old economics student returning to get his MBA. I know how to adapt my tutoring methods to the individual needs of each student to help them learn quickly and thoroughly.
About Me: I graduated from Westminster College two years ago with degrees in international business management and computer information systems. I began working for a local company as a driver, and within eight months was a general manager in charge of running the entire company. After doing that for a while, I quit that job to pursue tutoring as a full-time career and have been doing so for almost a year now.
Multiple Lesson Discount: I am available for both long-term and short-term tutoring. I prefer long-term tutoring commitments, because this allows me to assess the student's problems with the material and address them as they come up. It also allows me to learn more about the student and individually tailor my teaching style to fit the student's needs. To encourage this, I offer a reduced rate (equal to 1/2 hour of time, which can be applied towards either a longer session at the same cost or a cheaper session) for any session of at least an hour length after the first during a given week. You must ask me about the discount to receive it, and it is not available in all circumstances. I can also tutor short-term situations such as an upcoming test or a soon-to-be-due assignment.
Group Discount: Occasionally, students will ask me to tutor multiple students during the same time period. Common examples of these are two friends in the same class or two siblings. I am willing to do this, and I offer group rates. For each student after the first, the base price of the session increase by $10. This will not affect the cost for travel time, but it will be affected by discounts offered through both WyzAnt and myself. DISCLAIMER: The overall effectiveness of a tutor decreases with the number of students, because I have to divert my attention between them. With two students in the same class, this is not usually noticeable; with two different classes or more than two students, there may be a noticeable difference in the effectiveness of the tutor. It is to account for this loss of effectiveness that I charge a lower average per student for groups.
Travel Policy: I am working as a full-time tutor, and I often have several students meeting on the same day, especially during crunch times like mid-terms or finals. For this reason, I generally ask students to meet me somewhere close to Westminster campus (my chosen location) if possible. Common safe locations are the Giovale library on campus, or several public locations in Sugarhouse plaza such as Barnes and Noble or the public library. If these locations do not work for you, I am willing to travel if my tutoring schedule allows it.
Cancellation Policy: If you notify me at least 18 hours prior to your scheduled tutoring appointment, there's no trouble at all. If you cancel within a short time of your scheduled time, I will charge you a partial amount for lost opportunities and scheduling inconveniences. If you cancel with between 1-18 hours left to your appointment, I will charge 1/2 the scheduled time, with a minimum of 1/2 hour. If you cancel within one hour of your appointment, I will charge 3/4 scheduled time, with a minimum of 1 hour. If you fail to attend an appointment with no prior notice, a cancellation fee for the entire session will be charged. Signing up for an appointment implies acceptance of this cancellation policy.
I was only 2 classes away from graduating with a degree in international business management at Westminster College before switching majors to take advantage of a scholarship. I have been an entrepreneur and small business owner for 3 years, placing in the top 30 student business plans in Utah for the 2011-2012 competition. I have been tutoring business classes for 3 years as well, including a current MBA level economics class.
I graduated from Westminster College with a degree in Computer Information Systems. In my full-time job, I work as a programmer and web developer. If you have a question that I can't answer off the top of my head, I know where and how to ask the questions and find the answers.
I graduated from Westminster College with a degree in Computer Information Systems. I have two years of experience tutoring both computer programming and computer science. Some topics that I have successfully taught in the past include: boolean algebra, logic gates, algorithms, databases and information retrieval, and (basic) computer security.
I have played the piano for over fifteen years, having started when I was six years old. During the first several years, I was certified through level 5 with the certificate of merit system, but stopped participating in that system when I switched piano teachers. I have played for various functions, including accompanying both solo vocalists and choirs, as well as a band. In addition, I have tutored beginning piano students at Westminster College.
I focus a great deal on technique, and in early learners the ability to read music. I don't focus a lot on ear training or improvisation, nor on the ability to write music, but I make sure that my students can take a piece of music and learn to play it well.
I did exceptionally well on the PSAT, with a score of 223 (out of 240). This score was high enough to make me eligible for competition in the National Merit Scholar competition, in which I was a finalist. I also scored 2370 on the SAT.
Even more important than my raw scores, I am capable of helping others improve their scores. While I cannot guarantee scores exactly like mine, I can help students learn the test-taking techniques that helped me succeed with the PSAT, SAT, and any other multiple choice test.
There are two ways of studying for the PSAT and the SAT. The first is to study the actual material, which involves reviewing geometry, algebra I and II, vocabulary, and grammar. The other method of study is to learn to understand the thinking behind a multiple choice test, which will help you prepare for all multiple choice tests for the rest of your life. If you are interested in hiring me as a tutor for the PSAT or SAT, I can teach either or both methods.
