Promotional fees starting at $35/h for children. Results-driven language/test prep expert offering 4-h immersion programs with guaranteed results after the first two hours. I am a professional tutor with 25 years of experience, having worked in the US and Europe as a certified teacher/tutor/tester. I have been teaching ENGLISH, including SAT, ACT, AP, ESL, TOEFL, STAAR, SSAT, EXPLORE, along with Humanities, Human Geography, Biology, Bible Studies, and Art. I also teach FRENCH and ITALIAN (AP test and all levels) and have provided homeschooling.

My credentials are: a Master of Arts degree in European Studies from George Washington U. with coursework at Georgetown University (Washington, D.C.); a Bachelor of Arts degree in English; and studies in France and Italy. I have worked in the U.S. and Europe for: The University of Texas/ALTA, Open University Business School, Inlingua School (teacher/ tester to US diplomats), The Conservative Party of Texas, UNICEF, legal courts in Washington D.C. and DIPLOMAT languages school. My students' needs are my priority, therefore I offer exceptional flexibility, 7 days/week, with scheduling options between 7AM-9PM. I provide immersion courses, customized lessons, and availability to teach at students' preferred locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area or in an elegant European office.

FRENCH and ITALIAN immersion courses:
I worked as a tutor/tester for diplomats in Washington D.C. and my current method emulates the language training usually offered in diplomatic schools, similar to governmental ILR testing for U.S. diplomats. Immersion language training ensures the fastest learning process as it covers not just speaking skills, but also listening comprehension, writing, and short-cuts to grammar; it includes TV sources, literature, media, etc. Children may receive a "for-kids" version of the same Immersion Language training, adjusted to fit their individual needs, or different curricula as required.
I studied at The Italian Center (Naples, Italy), France Language (Nice, France); and in Quebec City, Canada. My French and Italian accents are native-like because I grew up in a French-speaking family, and I lived in Italy before becoming a U.S. citizen in 1997. I teach standard French/Italian, and regional dialects if needed.
Students receive:
1) all lesson materials covering media, movies, French/Italian TV, literature, and online study; 2) charts for fast learning; 3) French/Italian exercises (online study) for cultural immersion between lessons; 4) "cheat sheets" to help students study alone; 5) flexible scheduling; 6) optional certificate of achievement; 7) continuing study materials so that students will not need further tutoring after the course completion.
Levels: A) Pronunciation/Conversation (Beginners). B) Presentations and Essays /Professional skills (Intermediate-Advanced)

ENGLISH Courses:
a) SAT, SSAT, ACT, AP, ESL, TOEFL, STAAR, ACT EXPLORE, GRE courses provide thorough instruction in grammar, vocabulary, comprehensive reading and test practice. The "language immersion" method implies in-depth study and relies also on relevant online links that I provide to my students between classes for constant support.
b) College Assistance and Executive language training: I teach Professional English courses using many sources including business materials, U.S. TV, media, humanities subjects, and international affairs/political science.
c) For kids/teens/college students, I teach customized courses based on school curricula covering: Humanities, US/World History, Psychology, Philosophy, Reading Comprehension, Writing, Human Geography, Biology, Vocabulary, Business, International Affairs, Social Science, European History, Classics, Creative Writing, Painting, Drama, Bible study, and overall career/study -organization coaching.
d) Special Needs: I am certified in ADD-ADHD and Dyslexia, offering customized immersion courses that employ multi-sensory and research-based approaches, and/or -- optionally -- European methods. (I speak Basic Spanish for bilingual students.)

HOMESCHOOLING programs:
I was trained in philology/linguistics, child psychology, Orton-Gillingham method, and I studied and practiced authentic Montessori approaches in Italy. Currently I offer all K-6 subjects through homeschooling plans that are designed according to TEKS (state mandated standards) and parental requests. The lessons are rigorous yet entertaining as my students develop a life-long passion for reading books and learning. You will see results after the first 2 hours. I also teach competitive ADD-ADHD and Dyslexia courses based on a sensitive European method that differs from U.S. approaches, and our results have been remarkable.

My background is international: I grew up with simultaneous language training in English, French, and Italian and I have resided and worked in Italy and France. I was a professional English teacher in Europe before becoming a U.S. citizen in 1997. My courses employ European techniques that have proven very effective on U.S. tests,

I will be happy to meet you for a FREE preliminary consultation to discuss your goals and options. Promotional rates for the 4h intensive immersion program, min $35/h for one child (aged 3-7) and between $45-$75 for one adult based on student's conditions and method options. (M.A. Certified Professional Tutor, 25y experience. Taught D.C. diplomats.)

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I am a certified English teacher with over 20 years in tutoring.
My religious background is Messianic-Jewish.

I was baptised Greek-Orthodox Christian in Europe (Romania), and I also converted to Judaism in 2008 in the United States based on my father's family history and my Biblical convictions. My Conservative Jewish formal education lasted 2 years and was completed at the Adas Israel Synagogue in Washington D.C. under the supervision of several rabbis who provided Biblical history lessons for 1 year. Subsequently, I studied in New York City, and have continued to research Orthodox Christian (and other Christian sources) as my personal interest. In college in Europe I studied Latin, and at the synagogue I studied Biblical Hebrew, and I am particularly versed in the Old Testament, The New Testament, and the Torah, as well as in mythologies and other religions, due to my personal interest in spirituality. I base all my information exclusively on classical authors and acknowledged Biblical exegeses.

As a tutor of European languages and cultures, I have had many Christian students here in Texas, and we have had extensive interesting conversations on Biblical topics. My American students can benefit from the Biblical knowledge I have acquired in my years of tutoring English, Italian / French cultures, and they can also learn from my European Studies and Messianic-Jewish knowledge and experience.

I view the religious culture of the United States as uniquely pro-Biblical and wise, in that it has allowed the merging of the Christian and the Jewish traditions promoting their common root for a strengthening of Abrahamic spirituality, which is the only path, I believe, towards the healing and regeneration of the contemporary world. I would look forward to acquiring this qualification in order to support my students in their Biblical goals.

Thank you.
Gabriela A.

Dyslexia

My main certifications for tutoring dyslexia-diagnosed students are: a European Bachelor of Arts degree in English with extensive study and practice in: Phonetics, Child Psychology, Dyslexia and Special Needs/ADHD children.

I also hold a master's degree in diplomacy with certifications in linguistics and etymology (Latin, Italian, French), thus I am able to offer more in-depth explanations to my students than a regular teacher can provide. Other certifications I've obtained are useful too for a well-rounded methodology: spelling, vocabulary, accent reduction, writing, reading comprehension, and proofreading.

In addition to my college background I practiced my training in Romanian orphanages and in Naples Italy, as well as in the United States where I helped dyslexia-diagnosed children and adults improve their pronunciation, reading/writing, and diction skills. I have also passionately continued to study over the past 25 years and currently I am in process of pursuing additional certifications in child psychology and special needs education from European schools.

Each dyslexia case is different, therefore I always teach my students according to personalized data, employing educational tools such as: verbal stimulation through relevant readings and writing; comparative phonetic studies; practicing phonics and presentations; identifying the student's weaknesses and creating a priority-based curriculum. I am always focussed on addressing psychological issues (e.g. shyness, fear, concerns, etc) through interactive conversation that aims at establishing co-operation and earning the student's trust in order to better help him/her. We study: letter formation, writing, recognition skills, linguistic awareness, sound-meaning exercises, texts, poetry, technological tools e.g. recording, CDs, TV sources, etc.

Children have also responded tremendously well to more entertaining approaches: songs, games, speech-related drawing/painting, and role-playing that can trigger their emotional/ instinctive responsiveness and help them control and overcome their linguistic barriers. (Regarding arts: I am also certified in Arts and trained at the National Academy in NYC, thus I have been able to apply drawing and drama skills to my special needs classes.)

I truly enjoy teaching and helping my students, and this dedication and patience have led to success stories. My lessons are always results-oriented based on specific plans that occasionally require parental co-operation, but most of the time are only my responsibility.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been training elementary school children since 1992, in Europe and the United States, each time receiving excellent results due to my personalised method that complements traditional instruction with immersion and holistic subject training. Thus the student learns literature/language, grammatical structure, vocabulary, history, geography, writing, reading, public speech (presentations), arts, science, and other subjects in an integrated manner that allows him/her to grasp the connections between such topics. In my collaboration with various schools, I have received praise for the competitive results, the complex content of my lessons, as well as for managing to develop children's interest in learning.

I have a BA in English Language and Culture; extensive English and ESL tutoring, and an MA in International Affairs / European Studies. I tutor at private school: kids programs, and am a tutor & examiner for Washington D.C. diplomats. I am a translator of English novels and management books, conference interpreter. In addition to the above knowledge and career, I am a qualified teacher (BA in teaching and in English), which is an important feature for a tutor in conveying priority information in the best-structured way using the most effective business-vocabulary approach to benefit the student.

Painting

Painting has been my long-time hobby ever since I was a child. Though I chose a career in literature and arts, I have continued to paint, and in the United States I received formal training in classical painting at the National Academy of Art in New York City (2008, Prof. Sam Adoquei) and took private classes with surrealist painter Dave Kramer in Dallas (through 2009). Prior to that, I studied with various local painters in Italy where I resided for many years. I specialize particularly in portraits and still nature, oil on canvas, various styles. I have also tutored private students in European arts, from Renaissance to modern painting and drawing, as my professional qualifications are European Studies (MA) and French/Italian/cultures (BA). Some of my students have opted for in-depth study of Italian and French painters with adjacent Italian/French languages/cultures study, and my arts classes may include references from Italian and French painting schools. I would be happy to provide samples of my painting and drawing to you during a free consultation including a test. You will also find that my qualifications/experience as a professional teacher helps (as much as artistic talent does) in this tutoring process.

Public Speaking

I am a certified English teacher with additional college degrees in Philology and European Studies. My bachelor and master degrees covered public-speaking-sensitive subjects such as: rhetoric, diplomacy/international affairs, psychological analysis, literary writing, sophisticated vocabulary, cultural psychology, and international protocol / manners. Having worked for over 10 years also as a conference interpreter (English to other languages), I am well-versed in public speaking and have many real-life lecture stories to refer to in my explanations to students. Additionally I worked as a fiction translator (English novels by Phillip Roth, Anita Brookner, Janet Dailey), a job that involved much versatility in using the correct speech nuances of diverse action characters.
I have been tutoring for over 20 years in the United States and Europe and my language and culture courses have usually covered the above topics in order to prepare my students in a well-rounded manner for their international careers or global interactions. My method has always been this:
1. learn the student's goal, style and knowledge gaps, and tailor a personal curriculum for him/her
2. use diction sources (American/ British TV speeches, documentaries, films, etc) to explain the ways to eliminate errors
3. create individual scenarios involving public speaking: from everyday conversational situations up to professional or complex presentations in front of audiences
4. besides the standard language, I include diverse dialectal sources to ensure the student will be familiar with his/her interlocutors on all grounds and will be able to address them effectively
Below are some reviews posted by my students on Wyzant, my private website, Linkedin, and language-school-teachers.com:

“Excellent. I had couple of sessions with her for pronunciation improvement and accent reduction. She provided excellent feedback and instructions on how to improve along with some of the quick techniques. I would recommend her to anybody looking into this area or improving grammar or overall English.”

Yogesh, India
English/ESL Intensive 4-hour Program, 2013

“Once upon a time I got angry with myself and decided to put an end to my ignorance in English. I've already been settled in Dallas for five years and couldn't string two words together in English. Both my husband and I went online and got absorbed in looking for a teacher. Our choice was Gabriela Anderson; we didn't know why her ad attracted us.
For six months I took English lessons with Gabriela. Initially, I must admit, I was so scared of English that I nearly fainted whenever I heard it. Now all that is in the past. I can express myself maybe not as well as I would like to but pretty well, thanks to what Gabriela has taught me.
I've met not only a teacher but an intelligent responsible and good-natured person.
Thanks to Gabriela my outlook was widened, and I learnt a lot about American culture, history, and people. Together we listened to TV news and read books, and I learnt much that was new to me about American movies, writers, famous singers, actors, etc.
And I have to say that my life became much more interesting because my English is now fairly good. Thank you once again, Gabriela!

“Gabriela is Good — As per our son's interest, we have started the English reading. Gabriela is an excellent orator and good reader, am able to see some improvement in my son reading.”
Devi for son Vaibhav (India)
ESL 4h Immersion Program, 2013

“My friend and I decided to take classes to improve our American-English skills. We work in a hospital, it was very important for us to speak well. The program was very helpful and Gabriela provided many pronunciation lessons and common vocabulary and expressions. We felt it was very helpful to learn from an English teacher who had studied English as a 2nd language many years ago because she knew how to explain the language to us and to relate to our learning experience. We did many exercises that included American TV, regular conversation, presentations, and even regional dialects and slang as part of our phonetics lessons. We have been very satisfied with this program therefore we are continuing studying for advanced level We recommend it to all students interested in American-English.”

Reading

I have been tutoring English Reading to students since 1988. I am a European tutor trained in British English, and I have been living in the United States (as a U.S. citizen) for the past 17 years. This combination of backgrounds and many years of formal training at the best universities have allowed me to acquire an articulate intellectual American-English diction that receives praises on a daily basis. Above all, Reading is not about linguistic accents, but about one's ability to comprehend complex texts and grammatical structures and to pronounce/employ sophisticated words correctly. My 25-year experience has covered translation of American novels, translation of management and marketing books for a British university, conference/simultaneous interpreting, as well as constant tutoring to students and adults. I am certified in Reading, SAT ACT Public Speaking, Vocabulary, Writing/ Creative Writing, Child psychology, foreign languages, philology and business/international affairs

Romanian

I was born in Romania and my BA minor is in Romanian. I have been teaching Romanian immersion programs since 1994, and in Washington, D.C., I taught Romanian to U.S. diplomats.

SAT Reading

I have been tutoring English SAT Reading to students since 2002. I am a European tutor trained in American English and in British English, and I have been living in the United States (as a U.S. citizen) for the past 17 years. Reading Comprehension is one of the most difficult SAT subjects, and I have promoted my students by training them based on SAT manuals as well as classical and contemporary literature. Choosing the most challenging materials and stimulating the student's ability to perceive diverse dialects are also important aspects in SAT/ACT training (I use American TV and, if needed, British TV sources). My 25-year experience has covered translation of American novels, translation of management and marketing books for a British university, American English conference/simultaneous interpreting, as well as constant tutoring to students and adults. I am certified in SAT Reading, ACT, Public Speaking, Vocabulary, Writing/ Creative Writing, Child psychology, foreign languages, philology, and business/international affairs.

SAT Writing

I have been tutoring English SAT Writing to students since 2009. I am a European tutor trained in British English, and I have been living in the United States (as a U.S. citizen) for the past 17 years. Writing is a very complex skill that, in fact, differs from one culture to another. Writing well implies one's familiarity with diverse and complex texts and grammatical structures; on a higher level, such as literary writing, it also requires philological training (philology= "love of words") which is a European traditional method less known in the United States. I have provided both traditional SAT training and SAT philological training (which includes rhetoric, grammatical and psychological analysis, creative writing) to my SAT students with excellent results. My 25-year experience has covered writing articles, translation of American novels, translation of management and marketing books for a British university, American English conference/simultaneous interpreting, as well as constant tutoring to students and adults. I am certified in SAT Writing, Reading, ACT, Public Speaking, Vocabulary, Creative Writing, Child psychology, foreign languages, philology and business/international affairs.

About Gabriela

Taught D.C. diplomats.)
