PhD Art Historian | AP History & Writing Tutor

I am a PhD in Art History with more than 10 years of teaching experience in both high school and college classrooms. I specialize in AP U.S. History (APUSH), AP Art History, social studies, academic writing, and college application essays.

My goal is to help students develop the content knowledge, writing skills, and study strategies needed to succeed on AP exams and college coursework. I provide targeted support with DBQs, LEQs, source analysis, test preparation, and academic writing.

I also coach students through the college essay process, helping them craft authentic, compelling personal statements that stand out. As an experienced high school and college instructor, I know what teachers, professors, and admissions readers are looking for—and how to help students present their best work.

Architecture

In order to advance to candidacy for my PhD, I passed my qualifying exams in the subject of art and architecture since 1900 with highest honors (December 2010). I am proficient in the history and theory of architecture, particularly from 1900 to the present. I can help students of all levels - from high school to graduate - succeed in architectural history and theory coursework, from ancient to contemporary periods.
Art History

Art History

I am a PhD candidate in art history, with experience teaching upper-division undergraduate students and guest lecturing in graduate seminars. I am proficient and experienced in helping students succeed in a wide range of art history subjects, from ancient to contemporary periods. Specific assistance is available for AP Art History as well as undergraduate and graduate art history coursework.
Film

Film

I have a graduate certificate in Film Studies, completed as part of my doctoral studies at CUNY Graduate Center. I have taken courses in film history, theory, and aesthetics. I have presented talks at conferences on film studies, and organized events at The Graduate Center highlighting the work of contemporary filmmakers and scholars. I can help students develop a familiarity with the global history of film styles, from the birth of cinema in the late 19th century through the present day. Students will gain a formal vocabulary for viewing and writing about film.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

I have extensive experience teaching writing-intensive humanities and social studies courses at both the high school and college levels. I am well versed in AP and New York State Regents writing standards and have guided students through thesis development, research papers, and analytical essays. As a PhD scholar and published author in peer-reviewed journals, I bring both professional expertise and extensive personal writing experience to my work with students.
