Yes, math can be fun! I have activities for a variety of math subjects (particularly Algebra 2, geometry, and AP statistics) that can break up the routine a bit. I believe it is most important to make a human connection with the learner. Using his or her interests and strengths, I can customize my approach. By making this connection with others, I have found that I learn so much from teaching. Teaching and learning are inextricably intertwined.
Tutoring math has been a passion of mine since I was a child. I always helped my friends in school, and I volunteer tutored at various times throughout the years. I have over 4 years experience teaching high school math, as a licensed teacher in North Carolina. I have the most experience teaching Algebra 2, geometry, and AP statistics, but I also taught Algebra 1 and precalculus. I worked as an engineer prior to becoming a teacher, so I can often relate how certain concepts are used in the “real world.” I also earned a Master's degree in statistics at Portland State University. I would be happy to send my resume and references.
On a more personal note, I love travel, tennis, and reading. I look forward to hearing from you to see if there is a match between your needs and my skills. I am available some evenings and all day Sunday. If you are looking here for a tutor, a course may not be going well. However, I have seen over and over that a small amount of individual attention can make a large difference in a student's attitude and achievement. Best of luck!
