Bio

Hi, my name is Bradley; and I have more than 15 years of experience helping students learn a variety of subjects, though my expertise is in English, Latin, and logic. I particularly enjoy helping students master a foreign language; and over the years I've worked with students of all ages and experience levels, from primary-school to graduate-school students. My experience during that time ranges from formally instructing a group of students in a classroom setting to informally tutoring...

Grammar,

Grammar

Informally, grammar (of languages in general and of the English language in particular) has been a fascination of mine my whole life. While in middle school, I frequented used book stores with a keen eye for old grammar books; it was then that I remember, rather fondly, first discovering paradigm charts. Formally, I continued my study of grammar while at the University of Iowa, eventually earning a degree in linguistics. My strengths are syntax and semantics, but I am versed also in phonology and phonetics, morphology, and historical linguistics.
Latin,

Latin

I have studied Latin for over a decade, which I began at age 16 at The University of Iowa. I particularly enjoy the writing/compositional aspect of Latin. My favorite Latin courses while an undergraduate were on the poetry of Catullus and on the variations in style of different Latin authors like Cicero, Livy, and Caesar.

As an undergraduate, I studied and tutored others in their studies of the logic of both prepositional and predicate calculi. I am also generally familiar with the history and development of formal reasoning, beginning with Aristotle up to the logics of Frege and Russell.

Outstanding tutor!

Bradley helped my son to prepare for the SHSAT exam. My son was struggling with logical reasoning and scrambled paragraphs and in a short span of only two months Bradley brought his level up from 50 to over 80 percent in each of these sections. His approach is consistent and is designed to make sure the skills stick. He is professional, punctual, methodical, knows his subject area extremely well, and is flexible and open to suggestions. Bradley takes his tutoring very seriously, prepares in advance for each lesson and he always has a strategic plan. For each lesson we received a comprehensive summary of the progress and challenges that really helped to track my son's progress. As well, Bradley is a terrific person and we feel very comfortable and happy working with him. He has my unreserved and highest recommendation.
