About Ruth

Bio

As a licensed math teacher with more than 25 years of teaching experience, I bring a great blend of knowledge, compassion, and enthusiasm to online discussions with students. I have developed and taught math curriculum in all courses from PreAlgebra through AP Calculus AB and BC.

As a licensed math teacher with more than 25 years of teaching experience, I bring a great blend of knowledge, compassion, and enthusiasm to online discussions with students. I have developed and taught math curriculum in all courses from PreAlgebra through AP Calculus AB and BC.

The online format is easy to use and gives you great flexibility in scheduling in the midst of busy schedules. Day, evening, and weekend hours are available; and you do not need to spend any time traveling to a common meeting location or having to welcome a tutor into your home. The minimum technology requirements are a computer and an internet connection. We work on a common whiteboard space in real-time; and we share documents such as homework, test review, and extra examples.

I bring my expertise with the subject matter and my rich experiences in working with students to every online tutoring session. My goal is to provide learning opportunities for students by offering engaging discussions and interactive demonstrations of math concepts. The tutoring sessions are not just about completing homework, but about strengthening students' understanding of concepts so they can continue to build their knowledge with confidence.

As a classroom teacher for over 16 years, I have developed and taught all math curriculum from Math Foundations and PreAlgebra up to and including AP Calculus. My teaching philosophy is to help students build connections between concepts so that the math they study is not separate procedures. Discussions are built upon a student's current level of understanding, which is guided by the questions they ask and the actual problems on which they have difficulty. There is a constant dialogue between students and myself of question, explain, reason, and making connections between concepts. This allows each tutoring session to be tailored to an individual student's current level of understanding, with the goal to accelerate their learning from that point.
