Qualifications for “Math”

When I work with calculus students, I often joke that as you work through a calculus problem, the calculus problem becomes an algebra problem, and then that algebra problem becomes an elementary math problem. So, even as tutor college students in the complex math they have to face, I still have to call on my knowledge of elementary school math. Over the course of the 20 years that I have spent tutoring, I have also helped elementary school students in the math they are doing, so it is fresh in my mind, making for a smooth tutoring session with no hitches.

I am a science, math, test preparation, and writing instructor with almost 20 years of experience. I have helped students from nearly every imaginable academic background achieve success in the subjects I tutor. Unlike other people who perform well on standardized tests, I can confidently and accurately explain the step-by-step approach that I took to arrive at the correct answer. The reason for my adeptness is that I have spent years studying standardized tests so that I could get inside the minds of the people who actually write them.
My teaching approach is tailored to the student. If I see that a student is struggling in an area because of a lack of a conceptual understanding, I will deliver a full lecture on the topic so that any confusions are eliminated. With every problem, I then explain the step-by-step procedure and the difference in the approaches used for a certain type of problem compared to other problems of that type. I also learned through my interactions with clients that many times they do not feel comfortable saying that they do not understand an explanation, so I often ask them to explain it back to me. I will omit this step if a client makes the request to save time. For visual learners, I can make use of charts, diagrams, tables, and images and videos from the internet.

As for my educational background, I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Binghamton University, and I am currently working on a second degree in Mechanical Engineering at NJIT. I am not the type of person who never looks at the subject matter of a class that I had taken ever again after the completion of the class. In fact, I will continue studying a subject even if I receive an A in it so that I will attain a mastery of it. This is a quality that has made me such an effective tutor over the years. In the General Science Praxis, which covers biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science, I scored a 197 out of 200. As a tutor at Kean University, I helped many students prepare for this test. Very few people would be willing to put themselves through the grueling tests that I went through, but I would want all of my clients to trust me as their instructor.

I'm reviewing for the Praxis Exam for General Science. He taught me how to methodically work my way through each practice problem to come to the correct answer. When I made silly mistakes, he didn't make me feel bad, but commended me on my efforts and patiently helped to explain why my thinking was incorrect. After he showed me where I was wrong, he helped me to arrive at the correct answer. This guy really knows what he's doing and he makes you feel like he really cares and wants you to succeed. I would recommend him to anyone!

Math praxis awesome

I never had trouble passing any standardized test until meeting the praxis 2 math content knowledge test (5161). I failed three times with scores of 155, 155, and 156 before I decided it was best to find a tutor to reach the 160 needed. After meeting with Lohith about 6 times, I took the test again and received a score of 183. That is almost a 30 point jump! Lohith has an inspiring knowledge of mathematics and is great with sharing it. He is patient and truly cares about your success. I highly recommend Lohith for tutoring in any math related field.
