My name is Shane, and I graduated cum laude from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. I've had two letters to the editor published in the Boston Globe and boston.com. As an undergrad I became a certified writing tutor through my university's writing program. Since then I have tutored thousands of students online and in-person. My approach to tutoring varies from student to student. First, I identify the student's needs, then we collaborate to develop a goal(s). I work to ensure the student is engaged in the learning process throughout the session. I ask guiding questions, frequently ask for the student's input, and utilize multiple resources to reinforce understanding.

A bit more about me: my area of focus in college was professional and technical writing. I work with high school students, undergraduates, graduate students, and Ph.D. candidates on personal statements, cover letters, resumes, theses, creative and scholarly essays, history and social studies assignments, short answer responses, discussion posts, and research papers. I can assist you with every step of the writing process from brainstorming to organizing your thoughts, to whittling down your ideas and copy editing. I look forward to working with you!
