I have recently moved to Gaithersburg, MD and I am currently employed as a scientist. I have a great communication and interaction with kids of all ages. I have the ability to teach in a fun and exciting way, so that the students always enjoy coming to my courses. I have also given private tutoring in math, science and programming to middle school and high school student during my undergraduate years.
I have had the chance to be a teaching assistant in Radiation Detection and Measurement Laboratory courses at Hacettepe and Penn State University Nuclear Engineering Departments every spring semester from 2006 to 2010. I have helped in laboratory preparation, experiment manual revisions, grading and in-laboratory advising. I also had experience as a teaching assistant in other courses in Nuclear Engineering, namely: Introduction to Nuclear Engineering, Electronic Laboratory, Nuclear Engineering Project-1, Modern Physics and Experiments in Reactor Physics. My duties again involved writing and grading homework and project assignments and conducting review sessions.
If I were to break down my teaching philosophy, it would be to simplify and care. Simplify because I believe that great teachers are the ones who manage to simplify even the most complicated subjects. This is very hard to achieve and requires a significant amount of experience and knowledge. Graduate students, including myself, usually have the wrong impression that the technical details are the most important part, which results in missing the big picture and the simple question that has been analyzed. Whenever I teach, I try to take this into consideration as much as I can. Care is the other key element. One thing that I have learned from my teaching experience is that if you really care about the students then they will notice. As a response they will be much more appreciative and attentive, and will be more interested in the material. At semester's end, I would always receive a few emails thanking me for my efforts. Those candid thank you and the fact that I actually made a difference have always given me great satisfaction.
