Teaching is my vocation. I have taught for many years, in public schools at the high school, middle and elementary levels, as well as at the community college level in English literacy and English as a Second Language. Prealgebra

I have taught Prealgebra to several private students in 7th grade who were having difficulty. They were subsequently able to grasp the main concepts and move on to algebra. I was able to convince them to go step by step through problems, which eliminates confusion and mistakes.

Writing

As a writer and teacher, I am fascinated by language. I have had extensive experience editing and revising texts for many students, in public education, at the university level and also as a private tutor.

English

I am an experienced English teacher of all levels, including university, community college and high schools. My subjects include grammar, writing, reading, literature and communications. I believe in meeting the individual needs of my students and have had success as a private tutor, also.

ESL/ESOL

Teaching ESL/ESOL effectively depends on a knowledge of students' cultures, as well as her or his needs in his new environment. Bringing the language to them as a means of self-expression, based on their prior experience is very important. I have always established an open, informal relationship with my ESL students, which is mutually beneficial.

Elementary Math

Elementary Math must be learned starting with the basics, numbers and their combinations. Each step is important for building a strong math background. Working with individual students in this subjects permits good understanding and confidence with solving problems.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified teacher (K-12) and have taught in elementary school programs in Baltimore. I have also tutored many elementary students in reading and math, from kindergarten through sixth grade. Success in elementary school is imperative for future advancement. Beginning with kindergarten, students can acquire the confidence and skills which will carry them through their future education.

Study Skills

I have been a teacher in public schools, at all levels, as well as community colleges and taught a study skills class for students applying to college at Baltimore City Community College. Excellent study skills are the key to success at all levels of education.
