About Jared

Bio

I have over four years of experience tutoring with hundreds of hours of tutoring time. I have an excellent background in tutoring and the courses I cover, much of which I got when I studied Civil Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Worcester, MA)

Although it is a small college of 1600 undergraduates it has a sterling reputation for math, science and engineering. Math and science courses at WPI built upon a strong foundation which started at Oakland Technical High School's Engineering Academy (Math, Descriptive Geometry, Physics, CAD) and Paideia Program (English, History, Government). Although I know that my skills have expanded since high-school, I note my experience there as over 3/4 of my tutees are of the highschool level with the rest usually being college or occasionally being at the middle-school level.

I have been taught and consider it true, that if I can't explain a subject then I don't truly understand it. This fact has led me to work with and help other students throughout my education and to this day. I also believe that visualizing a problem makes it easier to solve and gives a greater understanding of the subject whether it is a single line, a geometric problem or even advanced physics or engineering situations. I make an effort to provide multiple ways to understand a problem and to determine what is the best way for each student to learn.

I have a great deal of experience tutoring at many different levels. Starting when I was just tutoring for fun in high-school and college and I would tutor my friends in whatever classes we were taking or that I had taken. For the last four years I have privately tutored dozens of students for a total of over four hundred hours, including over a hundred on this site alone. In addition I also worked at a after-school tutoring company during a school year and then taught a summer course in geometry to the students there.

I have worked with AutoCAD 2004 and 2007, and AutoCAD Architectural Desktop for a total of hundreds of hours; including a major project submitted to the CA State Fair in which I put in over a hundred hours of work. I first used AutoCAD in the Oakland Technical High Engineering Academy in a number of classes. Although I enjoy knowing about our government I feel the need to spead that knowledge for I believe as Jefferson did that ". . . whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government; that, whenever things get so far wrong as to attract their notice, they may be relied on to set them right." Knowledgeable and insightful

Was very familiar with the topic (Calculus) and able to convey ideas and concepts with ease. Jared also connected the specific concept of the chapter with those of future chapters, placing the entire lesson within the context of calculus as a whole. In addition, he was also patient and willing to wait for his student to try to figure out the problem on his own, before he jumped in to help. An overall effective and amiable tutor.

Jared has been working with my son for about one month now. Since then, I have seen son's performance in AP Calculus AB steadily improve. He is more enthusiastic about math and finishes his homework a lot quicker than he used to prior to these tutoring sessions. Jared is more than qualified on the technical subject matter, but most importantly, he has been able to relate very quickly with my teenage son in a manner that prior instructors have had difficulties with.
