Spanish and Italian

I have been teaching Spanish and Italian on the college level for nearly 15 years. It is ironic that I was told, after having taken a standardized aptitude test on language in junior high school, I could never learn another language. Apparently, the test was faulty. It is my conviction that anyone can learn another language if you have a strong desire to study, a willingness to make sounds that may seem odd at first and a lot of patience.

I have taught students on all levels. Between children who learn by playing games and adults who want to acquire a language for their degree work, I try to make language learning an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Learning language means to learn about culture. Having lived in Puerto Rico and Italy, I immersed myself in these cultures to understand their attitudes and perspectives.

Piano

I have been a piano teacher for many years. Having studied at New England Conservatory, Boston College and privately with a pianist in Rome for 28 years, I have taught all ages and levels of expertise. Although I am a classical musician, I have taught popular music too.

Spanish

I have been speaking Spanish for over thirty years. Since 1997, I have taught Spanish on the college, high school and middle school levels. I have also taught Spanish conversation courses in adult education programs as well as in after-school programs for primary school children.

English

I am a native Bostonian, and I have been teaching foreign languages to students since 1997. In the process, I found that I was helping students learn English grammar. I have taught on the college level (St. John's Seminary College, Brighton, MA; Wheaton College, Norton, MA; and Emmanuel College, Boston, MA) as well as on the elementary, middle school and high school levels.

Italian

I completed my higher education in two Italian universities over the course of eight years in Rome, Italy. I am presently teaching Italian at Emmanuel College in Boston. I started teaching Italian studies beginning in 1997 at two other colleges in the Boston area (Wheaton College, Norton, MA and St. John Seminary College, Brighton, MA). I studied with Myrna Rybczyk of Millis before entering the New England Conservatory Preparatory Division in Boston. I studied with Dr. Edwin Hymovitz at the conservatory for four years. I studied Piano Performance with Dr. Olga Stone at Boston College, Newton. I studied privately for the past 28 years with Maestro Carlo Dominici of Rome.

ESL/ESOL

Born in Boston, MA, I am a native English speaker. As a foreign language professor (Italian and Spanish) since 1997, I have been helping native and non-native English-speaking students appreciate and learn the foundation of English grammar. Once students understand the building blocks of English, they are better prepared to learn how other languages work.

Public Speaking

I have been engaged in public speaking for over 25 years. I have also taught the subject for 7 years on the college level.
