I am a rising senior at Emory University's Goizueta Business School and have already held multiple tutoring jobs. In high school, I tutored a junior high student in algebra I and II and English. Upon coming to college, I began working as an administrative assistant and tutored a coworker on some basic computer skills to make her life much easier. I then began tutoring psychology, statistics, and linguistics through an Emory peer-tutoring program. I'd like to expand my tutoring reach as I find it to be rewarding both for myself and the tutees. Since my time on WyzAnt, I have expanded my tutored subjects to include writing, economics, Excel, and other business, test prep, and computer-related subjects.
I like to play "devil's advocate" as a tutor by allowing students to question themselves and come to the right answers on their own. I will give assistance and support, but I do not do problems for students so that they "get the right answer." I believe learning and understanding the material is of utmost importance and ultimately better for the student.

Since my time on WyzAnt, I have begun tutoring more subjects and have had unique tutoring requests. I have had students change coursework and ask me to continue tutoring them, even in subjects I have never taken. I have been asked to create practice tests and answer keys. I have utilized tutoring in person, online, and via phone, and I am comfortable with all mediums. Please contact me should you have any needs, traditional or otherwise.
I will also be in New York City for the duration of the summer. Therefore, I will be available to tutor in person in New York, as well as remotely through use of the online platform for students in other locations.
I took my first accounting class this past semester at Emory, financial accounting, through the Goizueta Business School. After receiving an A on all tests and a 100% on all homeworks, I was approached by the teacher about being a TA during the summer session of the course, a job that I accepted and have loved.
I then went on to spend the Fall 2013 semester taking managerial accounting, a subject in which I excelled due to my attention to detail. During this time, I began tutoring an MBA in both financial and managerial accounting with great success.
I find that tutoring accounting is equal parts patience and understanding. Accounting can be a very difficult subject for students to grasp, as everyone's background of the subject is vastly different and few process the material the same way.
Nevertheless, it is a subject I have enjoyed tutoring and would love to continue to tutor.
One of my first tutoring jobs was a junior high student who needed help with algebra I and geometry. I love both subjects and have tutored them rather extensively. Even my first tutee here on WyzAnt was an algebra I student! I aided him in passing his CRCT; his score increased by 40 points after only seven hours of tutoring!
I believe that the best way to teach others algebra I is to allow them to do sample problems to see whether they are lacking any fundamentals or simply need refinement, and then proceed from there, whether it's teaching the basics over again to build a strong foundation, reviewing concepts to make them stronger, or critiquing the little issues a student may be having.
I took AP US history in high school and subsequently made a 5 on the College Board exam, the highest score attainable. This allowed me to opt out of a similar history course taught in college. I love American history, and believe that I could apply the tutoring skills I have gained through tutoring other concepts to help a student both memorize and understand the various aspects that comprise an American history course.
While in college, I have been able to aid another college student at a different university with his American History course - primarily discussing course content to organize his thoughts for a writing assignment.
I took art history as a senior in high school. While I personally do not consider myself an artist in the more traditional sense (drawing, painting, sculpting, etc), I enjoy learning about art and visiting museums to learn about different art forms and styles. I particularly love learning about the life of the artist to get a better understanding of his or her work.
I have recently visited the High Museum, and even once gave a presentation in Spanish about an artist.
I attended a private, Christian school from grades 1-12 and have been a practicing Christian during those times. I attend church often and have been a part of various Bible studies and small groups. I believe I could help direct a student or believer in learning more and having their own personal Bible study.
In college, I have become a participate in two fellowships on campus, one of which has allowed me to play a small leadership role and hold an informal mentor-like position.
I am currently working toward my Bachelor of Business Administration at Emory University's Goizueta Business School. I've tutored a wide range of subjects with in the business realm, from the more "traditional" (Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Economics) to some of the more "domain-specific" (such as Information Security and Operations Management). I've tutored subjects that I have taken previously, as well as aided students with classes I have not yet taken by reading the material they were given previously so that I could assist with their understanding by playing devil's advocate and having them explain concepts to me to ensure that they understood to the level that they were able to teach it themselves.

I had to navigate my own high school experience and class scheduling due to our lack of a guidance counselor and subsequently did the same for college admittance and career planning. As a result of my ability to plan my own college path, I was enlisted by many classmates to aid in both their applying to and navigation of colleges. Once in college, I utilized my planning abilities to help friends decide on their course selections depending on their year and academic plans. I therefore believe I would be able to help students with their college plans.
While in college, I have taken on several mentoring roles to aid younger students in determining their course schedules and career paths based on their interests and strengths.
I took AP microeconomics independently in high school and proceeded to achieve a 4 on the College Board exam, a passing score at all universities. I then completed Introduction to Macroeconomics in the Spring of 2013 as a pre-requisite to entering business school.
Additionally, I have become a tutor for both Intro to Micro and Macroeconomics for Emory during the summer of 2013.
Outside of the college community, I began tutoring an MBA student in microeconomics to refresh him on the basics of the course content and aid him with specific areas of difficulty.
For the most part, I believe the qualifications would come from passing the tests related to these subjects (math, English, science, etc.). However, I do have experience tutoring some young students from high school when I would help the siblings of my friends and classmates. I believe I have the skills necessary to teach young students and help them remain focused.
While most of my tutoring has been with older students, I have tutored two elementary age students in math and reading comprehension by allowing them to practice with examples that they like and understand. Being a creative problem-solver has helped me relate to students of all ages.

I took English and grammar courses throughout my grade school education, earning "A's" in every class on the topic. I understand how complicated the English language can be, but I believe I would be able to help a student understand the concepts to most of the English language grammar as well as memorize the exceptions.
Much of my grammar expertise has been employed in aiding students with papers, particularly when students are confident in the subject matter but not the grammar rules necessary to excel.
My freshman year of college, I took Logic 101, a philosophy class offered by an excellent professor. I passed the course with a 99%. I went on to informally tutor friends in the class who succeeded as well. While I cannot provide any concrete evidence of my ability to tutor logic, I can cite my excellent grades and my desire to attend law school which requires excellent logic skills.
I currently run on the Mac OS X 10.6.8 system. I've used it for two years and have taught friends some valuable shortcuts for the computer and various aids to make their use of the laptop more useful. I believe I could successfully teach someone to use a Mac, especially if transitioning from the Windows system, as that is what I did by myself.

I took a core Marketing class at Emory's Goizueta Business School. I received an A in the class overall after making a 97 on the first test and a 100 on the project. I believe I am well-versed in the basics of marketing and would be able to help someone understand the core concepts of marketing.
I have since undertaken some small marketing projects in my other jobs, including identifying potential customers and markets, as well as creating promotional materials.
I have been using Microsoft Excel since the 6th grade, when I asked for Microsoft Office as a "graduation" gift." I have become well-versed with the various functions and formatting options. While I would not necessarily consider myself "advanced," I would say I am past beginner and definitely intermediate. I can figure out nearly anything I cannot already do, and I have tutored coworkers about Excel to improve their skills. In fact, I use Excel at my job often to create budgets and other tracking spreadsheets.
While in the Goizueta Business School, I used Excel for more complicated tasks involving forecasting and financing activities, and plan to take a course next semester involving data visualization.
I have been using Microsoft Outlook since starting my full-time internship as an Administrative Assistant. I use both the condensed online version and a desktop version for the PC and keep organized through the use of folders, contact cards and groups, and highlighting and flagging. I believe I could successfully aid someone unfamiliar with or looking to sharpen their skills.
I have been using PowerPoint since I was in the 6th grade. I had computer classes in high school and proceeded to use PowerPoint both in high school and in college. After switching to a Macbook, I use both Microsoft PowerPoint for Mac as well as Keynote. I would say that I know basic and intermediate skills on PowerPoint with the ability to figure out more advanced techniques with a little research and preparation.

I took music history as a senior in high school. While I personally do not play any instruments, I enjoy learning about music and listening to different styles of music from all genres and time periods. I believe I would be able to put my skills to use in helping another learn about music, particularly the historical aspects of music.
I have made an A in every English and Grammar course taken in my life. I have proofread my own papers as well as the papers of classmates and friends. I have even completed proofreading jobs for coworkers for instruction manuals. Therefore, I believe I would be entirely capable of proofreading any type of document or essay.
I have aided many students in their writing assignments, and a large aspect of that is proofreading for errors.
I am a psychology minor at Emory University who has always had an interest in the topic. I've currently taken 5 classes (and received an "A" in all of them), including a statistics-based course to be able to accurately access the validity and statistical significance of a particular study. I began tutoring Emory students in two introductory psychology courses and one elective during my sophomore year and have found it to be a very rewarding subject to teach. Oftentimes, students need to talk over the topics to pinpoint what about the studies or concepts is difficult for them to comprehend. I personally have had students increase their testing scores from 10-30 points depending on the class.
I am now taking classes regarding the psychology involved in business, so I have a well-rounded view of psychology and its modern applications.
I took a Speech class during my senior year of high school, leading me to compete in our State and Nationals competition for Extemporaneous Speaking. I placed first in both competitions. I have explored different realms of public speaking, from persuasive to narrative to extemporaneous, and have presented many times in front of classes and groups for school projects. Additionally, I have also served as the "sounding board" for friends looking to practice presentations before the actual presentation.
After entering Goizueta Business School, I took a class titled "Business Communications" which has required multiple presentations to enhance public speaking skills. I was even asked to become a TA for the class next semester so that I can aid my peers with their public speaking skills.
I am a practicing Christian and have been for over 10 years. I also attended a Christian school. However, during my senior year, I spent extensive time studying other religions through readings of their own religious texts and books about other religions. I believe I could help someone understand concepts of other religions, especially if given time to prepare.
I've taken several sociology classes in college, and while I am no expert in the subject, I believe I could help someone looking to understand the basics of the field. I've studied the master trends of modern society, various social movements, and combined aspects of sociology with psychology and business.
I have taken QTM (Quantitative Theory & Methods), a social studies-focused statistics class, at Emory University. The course taught the fundamentals of hypothesis testing and confidence intervals, Z- and T- test scores, as well as the various tests that can be performed on data (one-sample z test, paired difference, etc.). After taking the class and receiving an A, I began tutoring the subject for the University as well as outside tutoring.

I aced out of study skills in high school due to my ability to take AP classes online and budget my time. In college, I have managed to work two jobs while never falling behind on homework, readings, or other assignments. I consider myself to be excellent at time management and using the time I have efficiently to study for classes, allowing me to study far less time-wise than fellow students because I study "smarter."
In high school, I taught Emory tennis camp for two summers, working primarily with the younger age group (ages 5-10), though I also aided in the teaching of my peers and those slightly older (10-18) at the time. During those same years, I played tennis for both ALTA and USTA teams, even going to city multiple times for ALTA and state for USTA once.
Though I now play only recreationally, I would be able to impart much knowledge of the basics of the sport, including grips, form, and rules and could help an upcoming player practice his or her skills and give strategic tips.
I have always loved writing and have written both on the side for my own purposes (such as blogging, tumblr, stories, poems, etc.) as well as academically. My writing has always gotten high marks, and I have learned to write in both appealing and academic styles. I believe I would be able to help a student make his or her writings sound better and more fluid.
