Hello my future students! Here is a little about myself:
My educational background is in Political Science and Diplomacy and International Relations. I have my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and my Master of Arts in Diplomacy and International Relations. Both fields require that you have exceptional reading and writing skills, which I do have. These fields also require that you have a love for world history, different cultures, and different languages. In studying these fields, I have an expansive knowledge of world history, domestic and international politics, and I speak Spanish as a second language.
While I was studying Political Science at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, I was a reading and writing tutor for fourth and fifth graders at an elementary school in Atlanta. I tutored for one semester, which is equivalent to about four months.
Two years ago, I was a Writing Instructor through a non-profit organization called Writers Express in Cambridge, MA. I worked at an afterschool program at an elementary school in Dorchester, MA, where I taught reading and writing skills to third, fourth, and fifth graders. I followed a curriculum through Writers Express, but I added my own creative and interactive teaching style to the lessons to make it a lot more fun and exciting for my students. For example, I taught lessons on verbs and on correct grammar and punctuation. It was a journal-based teaching system, and after I taught a lesson, my students practiced it in their journals. This allowed me to help them strengthen their writing skills. It was a wonderful experience!
I also was a mentor to a then 14 year old high school freshman through a non-profit called Project-AID. I taught her a lot about world history and different cultures in the activities that I planned with her. For example, we went to an Indian festival, and ate Indian food, which she had never eaten before, and we learned a lot about the Indian culture through dress and books. That was another wonderful experience!
I had to complete a thesis for my bachelor's and master's degrees, so I have great writing skills. Therefore, I would be able to tutor in any reading, writing related topic, or history, politics, or culture based topic. I can also tutor in basic level Spanish.
