About Cynthia

Bio

With my extensive teaching and tutoring experience and my international flair, I have successfully tutored and taught students from the United States and several other countries. My former students have gone on to attend law and graduate school and even medical school, and many of them keep in touch with me today, citing our experience working together as a major influence in their educational and career success.

With my extensive teaching and tutoring experience and my international flair, I have successfully tutored and taught students from the United States and several other countries. My former students have gone on to attend law and graduate school and even medical school, and many of them keep in touch with me today, citing our experience working together as a major influence in their educational and career success.

My academic teaching career spans more than two decades. I have taught high school Spanish (all levels) and have helped high-school age private students with AP Spanish and ACT or SAT test prep. At the University of Texas at Austin I taught all levels of Spanish and Portuguese for over twelve years and am fluent in both languages. As a part of my PhD work at UT, Austin, I lived and worked in Brazil. In Colorado, I have also taught English as a Second Language (ESL) and TOEFL test prep for college- and graduate-level students seeking to enter US universities. As an ESL teacher, I have had the great pleasure of working with students from Saudi Arabia, Korea, China, Mexico, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brazil, and other parts of South America and Asia. I am a published writer and particularly love teaching and tutoring writing to both ESL students and native speakers of English.

When I first started with Cynthia, I had problems with my essays. I had organization and grammar issues. Just after the fifth session, I started to realize that I have really been learning and progressing. Not only does she insist on me to write before we meet, but she insists that I actually complete the essay with a conclusion. Even though some days I didn't have a complete draft, she still helped extract my ideas and organize them.
