English and Math Tutor--Lessons in sports or arts

“What a child can do in cooperation today he can do alone tomorrow” (Vygotsky). I try to provide students with material understanding and foster critical reasoning so they might become more conscious, independent thinkers. Bringing knowledge and a considerable capacity to connect with students, I am seeking the opportunity to provide excellent instruction and motivation to inquiring minds toward the improvement of the community.

I have a B.A. and M.A. in English literature. I've taught high school math and English for 6 plus years - I've also had extensive tutoring experience, from 10 year olds to adults for the GRE. I pride myself on my flexibility in teaching concepts and my receptivity to different ideas. I would love to teach you and learn from you as well.

Algebra 1

I've taught 6+ years of every high school math class in the curriculum from Algebra to AP Calculus. I'm a dedicated professional and can teach any given topic from multiple angles which allows me to tailor my lessons to the unique thinking styles and strengths of my students.

Algebra 2

I've taught Algebra 2 in High School for 6+ years.

Calculus

I have taught AP Calculus AB in high school for 6 years and have tutored a number of students on the subject. I have instructed students to scores of 5 on their tests and I look forward to helping you do the same.

Geometry

I've taught Geometry for 6+ years and I'm flexible in my approach. I do my best to honor the unique critical thinking styles and strengths of my students while promoting their own ability to think and problem solve.

Precalculus

I have taught every math class in the high school curriculum (all Algebras, Geometry, Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus) for 6+ years. I pride myself on my ability to consider problems from multiple perspectives and thus have different explanations for any given question. I think this lends itself to appealing to various problem solving and critical thinking styles.

English

I have a B.A. and M.A. in English literature. I have also taught film and literature classes in High School.

GRE

I have taken the standard GRE and subject GRE before. I scored a 620 on verbal, 780 on quantitative, and 5.5 on analytical writing (all 87th percentile which confirms the greater challenge of the verbal section); my literature score was 610). I have a M.A. in English literature and have taught extensive math at the High School level (all the Algebras, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus). GRE math is something I have tutored a student on in the fall of 2011. She did spectacularly.

TOEFL

I have a B.A. and M.A. in English literature. I've studied linguistics in graduate school. I've also taught HIgh School English classes.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught Pre-Algebra to 6th graders and have received Master's level education in English literature. I have taught primarily high school math and English, but would be able to help students at any age group.

ESL/ESOL

I have a B.A. and M.A. in English literature. I've taught English classes at the High School level. I taught at a boarding school in Pasadena, CA (Southwestern Academy) specializing in ESL programs. I'd like to be certified in ESL.

Differential Equations

I've taken differential Calculus and vector Calculus in college. I've taught high school math for 6 plus years.
