I have a B.S. in Chemistry from Cal Poly (SLO), and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech, Pasadena). I currently work for a start-up pharmaceutical company, and I make organic molecules for testing against several central nervous system (CNS) diseases.
To understand and master Organic Chemistry, it is not about memorization, it's about understanding fundamental properties of atoms, which allows one to then understand why some species react one way, and other species will react in a different manner. I will break concepts down to a basic level, allowing the student to master the basics, and then return to the more complex problem that the student is trying to understand. Then the student has a better understanding of the fundamentals and can now master more advanced concepts.
I can explain concepts, or specific rxns and their mechanisms. I have now been performing/studying organic chemistry for 10 years, and can definitely be useful to someone who is struggling with this subject or trying to master it.
