English language, pronunciation and written communication

I taught English as a foreign language in Japan for five years. I have taught English as a second language to adults in Santa Clara County for twenty-five years. As far as English for speakers of other languages, I know how to deal with communication barriers that someone may be having due to limited vocabulary, difficult pronunciation or a low confidence level. I also taught Japanese as a foreign language for three years, Drama for two years and English for one year for the Campbell Union High School District. I have tutored elementary school, middle school and high school students in reading (for fluency and comprehension), math, history, Spanish and Japanese. All of this experience enables me to work with students of all ages in a multitude of subjects. My goal is always to help each individual I work with to reach his or her highest potential.

Reading

When I was working at Crystal Springs Elementary School as a teacher's assistant, I found out that I had a facility for helping children learn reading skills. Writing

I've spent my life writing. I am a published poet and have just completed a memoir of my five years in Japan. I have written short stories and many, many essays. For my Master's degree in linguistics, I answered 10 comprehensive questions over a weekend with about 40 pages of essay answers and received the highest marks in each of them. I like to help others find their own creativity with words.

Often teachers of English as a second language have specific skills directed toward that only. My skill set is much more general. My Bachelor's degree from SJSU was in English.
