My background in psychology, women's and gender studies serves me well as a culturally competent professional. I have worked with children who have emotional disturbance, and children with autism.

Vocabulary

I can quiz children in learning new words. I can help students learn how to break down words to figure out their meaning and how to understand a word from context.

Reading

I provide a supportive, patient, and focused environment. With younger children the focus is reading together and assisting with sounding out words and enunciation. With older children the focus is how to read for content and understanding.

Writing

I help students evaluate their writing for a basic thesis, supporting arguments, conclusions, grammar, and citation style. For younger students I focus on outlining a paper before writing and how to edit.

English

I help students identify grammatical errors and understand the parts of speech. I also assist with homework assignments.

Psychology

As a graduate student in clinical psychology I am well versed in the history of psychology, theoretical orientations, clinical applications, and research methods.

Literature

I help students become familiar with literary terms and devices. Using appropriate questions, I help students develop a deeper understanding of the material.

Proofreading

I assist student in identifying and correcting errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation. I teach strategies for identifying a student's common errors and areas for improvement.

SPSS

I am familiar with SPSS and can assist in running tests, basic analysis, and writing up results.

SAT Reading

I assist students with practice questions and help build logic skills and identify areas that need attention.

SAT Writing

Using the student's own study materials, I assist them in using logic to answer test questions. I help student's learn to identify errors, improve sentences, and revise paragraphs.

Philosophy

I assist in breaking down difficult philosophical concepts by discussing and reading together. I can assist in writing philosophy papers by evaluating relevant arguments and helping the student learn to consider the evidence through all viable options.

ACT Reading

I assist students in using practice questions to develop their skills in reading for content and understanding implied meaning.

ACT English

Using the student's own materials, I help the student practice reasoning through questions and assessing problem area that require attention.
