Exceptional Tutor for Adult Beginner Student

I was a complete German novice when I started my lessons with Carolyn and over the course of 5 months Carolyn proved to be a patient, fun, and effective teacher. I am 37 and have to juggle lessons with career and other responsibilities and Carolyn did a great job of understanding these limitations. I would highly recommend her to anyone with an interest in learning German.

Great German tutor

Carolyn is an excellent German tutor. We are learning German grammar and she has a way of explaining complicated concepts in very simple terms. She stops to make sure I understand everything, and she asks me what I would like to focus on. She works with my schedule and is very flexible. She is also very enthusiastic and fun to work with! She really knows the details of German grammar, and is able to communicate them very well.

Carolyn scaffolds her lessons to my current level and by the progress I am realistically able to make each week, rather than follow a script. She is patient and does a great job at making sure you understand a concept before moving forward. I highly recommend her as a German tutor.

Knowledgable, easy to work with, and excited about German!

Carolyn is an incredible teacher – she's very knowledgeable, easy to work with, and excited about German! In addition to having in-depth knowledge of German, she's also able to very clearly explain the underlying language concepts because she is getting her PhD in Linguistics. Because she has taught a large number of German classes, and also because she was once a German student herself, Carolyn knows exactly which subjects students tend to struggle with. She's great at taking the time needed with difficult concepts and focusing on the areas I'm not as good at.  From a personality perspective, Carolyn is always on time and accommodating. Also, she's just great to chat with.  She's hands down the best language teacher I've ever had. I commute from SF to Berkeley just to meet with her (it's also nice to get out of the city ??), and it's definitely worth it.

Great tutor!

Carolyn is a great tutor for learning English. She taught me how to speak English. She has a deep knowledge about languages and is very helpful. She chose a very good textbook for me to use and I learned very efficiently. She is also very flexible, so she always tried to make the lessons convenient for me. I definitely want to say that her lessons made my experience in the US very rich. I will choose her again as a tutor if I have a chance to come to the Bay area.
