Before entering the teaching profession I spent over twenty years as a manager and mentor in the private sector. Thus, my approach is pragmatically oriented and student-centered. In my experience, finance departments were notoriously poor at training and developing their human capital. I vowed in my first year to be different.
I kept that promise as I advanced and had many professionals reporting to me. Helping a subordinate develop his or her skills and move up through the ranks had always given me great joy. My “Financial Analysis” department at Bucyrus, International became a feeder group for other divisions.
Having taken such time and joy in these efforts, transitioning to a teacher was a natural progression for me that I leaped at four years ago. Since this career change I have been able to combine my varied, practical knowledge with my genuine concern for the student to create an interactive, joyful and professional teaching environment.
I am fortunate to have had a varied professional background from Controller to Financial Analyst to Mergers and Acquisitions at several well-known, multinational companies, (along with a healthy involvement in Management Information Systems), to draw from as examples that illuminate financial theory.
Additionally, my experience in China has been with an equally diverse set of cohorts. My students ranged from freshmen through post-graduate school with backgrounds from all over the world. In addition to the Chinese students, many of my classes are comprised of exclusively foreign students from Russia, Africa, The Middle East and Europe among others.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Master's degree in Accounting and over 20 years experience in the field. I am certified as a CMA, (Certified Management Accountant), and managed several accounting departments. I have also taught the subject at the university level for six years.
I have a bachelor's degree from The University of Wisconsin-Madison with a major in Economics. I have taught both Micro and Macro Economics at the university level.

I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do from the J.K. Lee Black Belt Academy.
I have played in organized leagues for over 40 years and have managed adult teams for five years.
