Hello, I'm Boyi! I am a recent graduate from Fairfax High School, of which I graduated in the top 1% of my class. Now, I am a first year student at UVA majoring in CS. During my time in high school, I tutored fellow peers math from Algebra up to Calculus, so I understand the perspective of those that are currently taking the classes and how to best tutor them. I remember initially struggling myself in some of those classes. But after getting a tutor myself that emphasized the importance of understanding content conceptually and not through sheer memorization, I gradually saw improvements in my testing performance and grades. By senior year, I developed a solid style of learning through conceptual understanding that made me efficient both inside and outside of the classroom. This is the tutoring method that I want to teach. One that identifies the root of the problem and solves it by filling in the conceptual gaps present. I hope that students come to each lesson with questions so that I can get a deeper understanding of the areas they struggle in. That way, I can shape my lessons to best fit each students' unique needs. Despite my experience being limited, I believe I am well suited to tutor mathematics and computer science as I was able to receive 5s on all my AP exams, including AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics. Additionally, I scored a 780 on the math section of the SAT and conducted computer science based research at George Mason University as a junior.
As I stated earlier, during high school, I tutored subjects such as Algebra through Calculus, Statistics, and Data Structures and Algorithms. I usually tutored one on one as I feel like that's the most efficient way to ensure understanding. But, above all else, I wish to help students succeed in school. I want to provide students the help I was able to get, help that ultimately allowed me to to get As in classes that seriously challenged me.
