I graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Chemistry in 2017 which I quickly followed up with a TEFL certificate. I then taught through Heart for Change in coordination with the Colombian government in Cucuta, Colombia during a wave of immigration to the border city from Venezuela. I taught both the students (grade 6-11) in the public school there as well as the teachers, so the teachers would be more capable after I left.
After returning to the United States from Colombia, I worked at Justice High School in Fairfax County, Virginia. I took over a few months into the school year for 3 freshman Honors Geometry class and 2 IB Math SL 1 classes after they had short term substitutes for 2 weeks. Despite the interruption in the learning of those students, I was the only math teacher at Justice that had all of their Honors Geometry students pass the end of year standardized test on their first try.
I have since added more individualized tutoring to my repertoire through Littera Education, where I have over 1000 Reading and Math classes taught to students ranging from 1st through 12th grade. The students were largely at or below grade level on starting and after a few months were generally above grade level. In addition, I have taught English to children and adult non-native speakers through Native Camp. On both platforms, I have consistently kept a high (at least a 4.4 out of 5) rating.
