Megan T, Bachelor of Arts, Registered Respiratory Therapist, Registered Nurse:

The nursing profession has changed enormously over the past few decades but the one constant is that bedside nursing is still an area of extreme importance. I was fortunate enough to have had a wonderful experience at Hartford Hospital in Hartford CT. Organization, time management and putting your patient first were top priorities for student nurses. Understanding nursing fundamentals is the best way to pass NCLEX. This has not changed over the years. Wanting to pass along this excellent training is the main reason I have joined the WyZant Company. Tutoring offers the opportunity to share this.

My experience is large in scope. ICU experience in Respiratory Therapy, Pre-op, Post-op and sugical circulator in plastics. Not to exclude med/surg experience. One other experience that has led me to this type of work is CNA nurse evaluator. It was this experience that has made me realize that I really want to teach.

I have done a lot of on the job teaching to nursing students, medical students, family members and new employees.

My belief is there are many potentially good students that have trouble organizing their abilities. Prioritizing is of the utmost importance in the field of nursing. Problem solving and critical thinking is paramount not only in passing examinations but more importantly in the clinical arena.

A love of nursing combined with a love for helping people succeeding is my goal.

Thank you for your time in reviewing my background information.

Sincerely,

Megan

NCLEX

NCLEX

Forty years in the medical field has given me ample opportunity to test as well as teach. My work experience has allowed me to train and teach other employees and students not only in nursing but respiratory therapy as well. I have also been a nurse evaluator for the National Association that tests nurses aides. My understanding about the formatting and weight of the varied parts of these exams is very helpful when helping a student prepare for such a comprehensive exam. Special attention is given to the wording as well as the vocabulary of each question on. Also areas of weakness are identified when making a plan to get started. Organization is a key factor when preparing for a test such as the NCLEX.
Nursing

Nursing

Experience includes Plastic surgery, Or, PAcU, PRE-OP, Med Surg, Urology/Nephrology, Outpatient, Clinic, Respiratory Therapy ICU, Endoscopy and Infusion Therapy.
Pharmacology

Pharmacology

I am a Registered Nurse, as well as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. I have been in the medical field for over 40 years. At present I am tutoring a nursing student from Marymount University helping her get ready for her HESI exam as well as the NCLEX. Pharmacology is a part of nursing and I have been giving medications for 40 plus years. Course work for the pharmacy technician course is not as advanced as the pharmacology course work for pharmacology in nursing. For these reasons I feel that I am qualified to tutor a pharmacology technician student.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I have used public speaking in many different venues. I taught a course for the Air Force Transitional Assistance Program for 1.5 years on professional dressing. Also, I gave presentations as a Respiratory Therapist on how to use equipment. Public speaking seems to be accompanied by a natural fear of standing up in front of a group and presenting information. Why is that? A couple of good reasons are that we spend most of our educational life listening to others and then being tested on how much we have absorbed by answering questions on a computer or on paper. It is not until we get older that we are tasked by speaking in front of a group. Teaching is one of the best ways to enhance your ability to successfully demonstrate ones ability to connect with a group of people. My experience in and out of the medical field has offered me many such challenges. Taking speech in college was only a first step. Teaching employees, and medical students about responsibilities on the job as well as how to do procedures has been very helpful. Organizing ideas, designing effective visual aids and clarifying key points backed up either by example or a story usually makes the audience feel comfortable with the subject matter. Having the ability to bring energy to your topic is also another way to do this. For a number of years I also taught professional dressing and image classes for the Transition Assistance program for the US Air Force. Classes consisted of an hour long presentation that included visual aids, color analysis, and a short slide presentation and how to build a core wardrobe from your existing closet. Personal consultations were also available to teach individuals how to dress and how to research companies and their particular dress culture for an upcoming interview. Become familiar not only with your subject matter but with your audience. Questions are always welcome as well as audience critiques. Feedback is a very important part of public speaking. Practicing rather than memorizing and diction p
Sewing

Sewing

I have been sewing for 40 years. I own my own machine and can show others how to match fabrics, use machine attachments, and follow patterns. Beginning sewing is a great skill to have. This course consists of basic skills needed to complete a garment or craft. How to follow pattern instructions, lay out and cut a pattern and to make adjustments for proper fit. Also covers necessary materials for garment construction as well as fabric choices for particular garment or craft One of the most important skills will be understanding the different parts of a sewing machine and its operation. Last but not least beginning sewing reinforces ones math ability. It is a skill that will last a lifetime.

Exceptional

Megan is truly the best in all regards. I could not have found or asked for a better tutor in light of my very difficult personal family circumstances at the time. I came to Megan after my NCLEX, failing at 75 questions, discouraged and frustrated with my lack of success with standardized tests such as Hesi and now NCLEX. First and foremost, she knows her stuff--the MedSurg & nursing clinical content and how the NCLEX testmakers think. Initially I believed that I needed a better grasp of the content, but very quickly I realized that test-taking strategies were critical. Having used KAPLAN and Hurst, I started using the Saunders NCLEX-RN review book, which Megan recommended. That was her first effective strategy--using Saunders. I discovered also very quickly that Saunders was a comprehensive review, much more systematic, better organized in fundamentals and MedSurg than either Kaplan or Hurst, with excellent practice questions and rationales for every chapter. Our sessions were super productive because Megan, as a good nurse did, assessed and "diagnosed" my strengths and weaknesses! She also knows what NCLEX emphasizes and that’s really important when it comes to prioritizing on what to focus on and committing to memory. Students have to remember that NCLEX is just an exam, that they really want you to have a core knowledge and not necessarily a lot of depth on patho and pharm, and also that the questions and choices are very clever and tricky. If you are willing to work on the basics---lab values, safety first, positioning, etc., and practice the questions the way she instructs, then you should pass NCLEX with her tutelage. As a person, Megan is an absolutely wonderful. I could go on and on with her with how truly caring and understanding she is and that money is not her motivation. She epitomizes in every best sense the nursing profession. I allowed myself about three months to study because I truly wanted to pass this on the 2nd try. As the exam date approached we met at least once a week and held a mini-marathon cramming, review session of Peds & OB, which was a blast! So excited and pleased to say that I passed my NCLEX re-take with 78 questions!!! It felt ridiculously tough, harder than my 1st one, and felt like I bombed it, but I didn't. I had strong personal motivation to study and pass, Megan was also incredibly supportive with my review pace/progress, encouraging, had complete confidence, which was not superficial but based on her experience as a tutor in knowing whether I was ready. I was so, so thrilled to show her my paper license, and to be one of her success stories. You will not regret working with her--she is exactly what you need!

Very knowledgeable and great testing strategies!

We focused on my respiratory and ABG's units for an upcoming exam. She had wonderful worksheets ready, books to review and different ways to approach a subject. Saunder's NCLEX Review book is favored by Megan and for good reason, it is an invaluable resource. She is very pleasant to work with and would recommend her to everyone!

Very knowledgeable, patient and kind

Great one on one sessions with a review of major units as well as testing strategies. I didn't feel rushed when going over questions and rationales, Megan really wants to make sure the student is grasping the material and she is very supportive.

Very knowledgeable tutor

Megan knows a lot about NCLEX- the subject matter but also how to answer the questions and teaches you how to think as test writers. She is very patient and a great tutor who makes sure that I understand what we are studying. Megan is really encouraging and motivates me even when it seems that NCLEX is too hard. I couldn't have wished for a better tutor/instructor all around.
