I offer homework help for elementary students in 40-minute sessions, and chess or Spanish practice lessons in 30-minutes sessions. I find these session lengths work best to keep students focused and engaged.

I currently help elementary students with homework in any subject (math, science, history, etc.). For the past three years, I’ve served as a substitute teacher in the San Antonio Independent School District, and my teaching approach focuses on ensuring students fully understand the material before moving on, building a strong foundation and boosting confidence.

I also teach chess and Spanish practice. Chess lessons cover everything from openings and middle-game strategies to endgame techniques. Spanish practice focuses on real-life conversational skills; I do not teach academically and am not able to assist with school assignments or college-level Spanish. I’ve been playing chess since I was 8 and have participated in many tournaments, and I enjoy helping students improve while building their confidence and enjoyment of learning.

Very patient

I was worried that whoever worked with my 2nd grader would loose their cool because she is so far behind due to loosing her second semester to COVID. But Juan was very patient and was actually able to break the lesson down to her like she was the 2nd grader that she is. Excellent tutor!
