With over nine years of teaching experience, I bring a diverse background and specialized expertise to the classroom. My journey began in the military, which laid the foundation for my commitment, resilience, and adaptability—qualities that have greatly benefited my career in education. As a certified English Language Arts and Reading, as well as Special Education teacher, I have extensive experience working with students of various needs and abilities. My dedication to supporting students with learning disabilities, including dyslexia and ESL, ensuring each student receives personalized support to thrive academically.
Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working with a wide range of learners. I tutor adult learners in GED preparation, elementary students in grammar and reading, and secondary students from middle to high school, while also assisting college students with crafting essays and scholarship applications. Beyond the classroom, I engage in editing work for professional authors before they publish, which complements my own work as a children's book author. My classroom experience spans middle school English (grades 6-8), high school (9-12) English, and Special Education resource classes, where I focus on an inclusive environment that embraces each student’s potential.
Differentiated instruction plays a vital role in my lesson development, allowing me to tailor my teaching to accommodate the diverse learning styles of my students. Each student brings a unique set of strengths, challenges, and preferences, and I design my lessons to reflect this diversity. For example, I incorporate a range of activities—such as hands-on projects, visual aids, auditory resources, and collaborative discussions—that cater to kinesthetic, visual, auditory, and social learners alike. By doing so, I create a dynamic learning environment where students can engage with the material in ways that resonate with them personally. This approach has been effective in my English and Special Education resource classes.
