Bio

I graduated in 1998 with a BS in Elementary Education and a math minor. I have a teaching certification 1st through 8th grade by the state of Texas. I have taught 4 years in the public school system, teaching 4th through 8th grade math, 4th grade art, and 4th through 6th grade technology. I taught 3 years at Evergreen Christian school, it is a private school, teaching 2nd through 10th grade math and algebra, bible, reading, and art. I graduated in 1998 with a BS in Elementary Education and a math minor. I have a teaching certification 1st through 8th grade by the state of Texas. I have taught 4 years in the public school system, teaching 4th through 8th grade math, 4th grade art, and 4th through 6th grade technology. I taught 3 years at Evergreen Christian school, it is a private school, teaching 2nd through 10th grade math and algebra, bible, reading, and art. I am a substitute teacher for Abilene ISD and have been sines 2008. I have taught in low socioeconomic schools so I understand some of the hardships of slower learning styles, problems with testing by the state and struggles with teachers and peers. I maintain my education through workshops given by the education center. My public school teaching has been at specifically Loraine Elementary, Albany Elementary, and Uvalde Elementary.

I love working with a student one on one and helping him/her begin to laugh again instead of shed tears of frustration. No child should struggle so much with school work. There are so many different learning styles and I try to find and use the ones that your child feels most comfortable with. I look forward to the "ah-ha" moments when the child finally understands and can feel they have moved forward.

Phonics is a program that is developed by using sounds of letters to create words. By putting these sounds together or using them to stand on their own, a person can learn to read and spell words in our English language. I have used these and have been in workshops at Region 14, which helped me understand and work with phonics for students, in my college and since my BS degree in 1998.

I have taken many classes throughout my church life to help me understand the concept of Christianity and Religion. I also taught the Bible at Evergreen Christian School for two years. He was patient, went step by step and repeated a lot, but it worked. It made me stronger and like the subject so much more. That is what I want for anyone I tutor in the area of algebra.

When a student is struggling from ADD/ADHD it is because of something that is different in his/her genetics not because he/she is choosing to be defiant. I have taught several children in my 16 years of education and understand that as a teacher you have to develop a different style of teaching for them. Separating, yelling or ignoring is not the approach but patience and a way that they can focus in shorter interval is the way that these children can best be taught. Also repetition as with any other child but to a bigger degree is what I feel is best.

Found a way for my child to learn and have fun at the same time!

Denise is always prompt and always has a smile on her face. My son loves their time together because he is learning while having fun. She is helping him with reading and after meeting with her he is enjoying reading more than he did before.
