What sets me apart? I was homeschooled until college, and went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from Duquesne University.

I'm Alex, a researcher of Cardiac Mechanics at Carnegie Mellon University. I earned my Bachelor's of Science in Biomedical Engineering with a Duel Degree in Mathematics. But before that, I was a homeschooled student through elementary school and highschool. Every subject, every assignment, every exam, I was responsible for mastering the material before sending it to Seton Home Study School for grading. I learned how to apply myself to every subject. From this training, I earned admittance into the Honor's College at Duquesne, and later earned my Master's in Biomedical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. I taught myself the essential skills to succeed in school, and I am confident that I can teach you any subject as well.

Toward the end of my Sophomore year, I decided to pursue my interest in Mathematics and teaching, joining the Mathematics Department as a full-time tutor. Through the next two years, I served Duquesne's community as a tutor both in person and online, and helped many students through the years. Now that I have graduated from Carnegie Mellon University, I am determined to bring my skills as a tutor to a larger community. I will give each student the resources and study tactics necessary to learn independently as I once did, and apply those skills to every level of their studies. You can excel, you simply need the right help to identify and overcome each challenge. My goal is to help you discover how you best understand the material.

I am friendly, outgoing, and excited to integrate new learning techniques into my tutoring style to best fit every student's needs. Reach out at any time to talk or schedule a lesson, and I'll do my best to respond as soon as possible!

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

In college, basic algebra skills are essential to performing well in higher-level mathematics subjects, so I often focused my early lessons with students on ensuring they understood these concepts. Algebra 1 forms the foundation upon which students understand subsequent math courses. Many times, my tutoring required me to reteach the fundamental material found in Algebra 1, such as plotting skills and working with fractions.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I earned my degree in Biomedical Engineering, with a duel degree in Mathematics, both of which required extensive and thorough skills in Mathematics. I tutored many students taking College Algebra, and focused on enhancing their understanding of the material through practice problems and thorough explanations of the topics. This tutoring extended to students who had very little experience with Mathematics, and we successfully built up their understanding of the material.
Calculus

Calculus

I principally tutored Calculus and Business Calculus for two years in Duquesne University's Mathematics Department. This included helping students prepare for exams, offering additional practice problems, and explaining the concepts in another way than offered in class. I assisted students of varying educational backgrounds and interests, improving their performances and helping them overcome key knowledge gaps.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I earned my degree in Biomedical Engineering and Mathematics from Duquesne University, during which time I tutored Mathematics to a diverse audience. Additionally, throughout highschool and college, I was a member of a youth ministry program that planned events for children and teenagers in our local community. From this, I have many years of experience working with youth and tutoring mathematics!

Precalculus

Precalculus

The skills and ideas taught in Precalculus were often those that I tutored most often. Many times during my two years with Duquesne's Mathematics Department as a tutor, students struggled in their higher level courses because they did not understand Precalculus concepts. As such, I have developed and practiced several methods of solving problems and approaches double-checking solutions, so that any student can find a way to succeed!
SAT Math

SAT Math

I graduated Duquesne University with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and a duel degree in Mathematics, and tutored for their Mathematics Department for 2 years. Before this, I self-taught myself to prepare for the SAT tests. Through diligent study, I mastered the material and developed several test-taking approaches that, on my first attempt of the SAT test, allowed me to achieve a 740/800 on the Math section. This score allowed me to join Duquesne University's selective Biomedical Engineering program.

Patient and knowledgeable

Alex is tutoring my daughter in math, and he's very knowledgeable and patient with her. She loves working with him, and he's great at explaining anything to her as well as asking her if she has any questions throughout their session. I definitely recommend Alex if you're in need of a tutor for your child. He's great.
