Hi, I'm Patricia and I am currently a first year dental student at the University of Pennsylvania. I went to the University of Pittsburgh and majored in Psychology with a minor in Chemistry. I first got exposed to teaching while serving as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA) for General Chemistry 2 in my spring semester Sophomore year. Since then, I have been a UTA for Foundations of Biology 1 and Organic Chemistry 1 where I generally worked one on one in a classroom setting.

My love for teaching and serving as a mentor for my peers inspired me to get trained and work as a tutor at Pitt. I am a certified Level 2 CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) tutor and have now been tutoring for about 3 years. I am also currently pursuing my Master’s in Higher Education alongside dental school, which has further strengthened my passion for teaching, mentorship, and student learning. My favorite parts of tutoring are connecting with students and helping them achieve their goals. In college, I tutored students one-on-one and in small group settings for Foundations of Biology 1 and 2, Organic Chemistry 2, and Biochemistry. I now tutor specifically for the DAT and more generally the science subjects (Biology, Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry). I have tutored around 400 hours and am excited to continue doing more!
Some of my tutoring methods include scaffolding, meaning I believe that tutoring is a team approach where I help the student reach a common goal. I am not here to lecture, but help students work through their thought process through follow up questions and probing.
Feel free to reach out for any additional questions or to schedule a lesson, I am here to help!
