Experienced Math Teacher, focused on helping struggling learners

Hello, my name is Dan. I'm a math teacher with over 15 years of experience with all grade levels and math topics. I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Mathematics from Millersville University. After that I began teaching 7th and 8th grade math while completing my Master's degree in applied mathematics at West Chester University. I'm certified to teach math in grades k-12, and my current teaching position has me working with individuals and small groups of students that are struggling with their primary math class and need some additional support.

I've previously tutored students at the middle and high school level. That, coupled with my current work to support struggling students in their primary math class, has given me years of experience and perspective on the struggling math student. In my classes and small groups, I work to build rapport with my students and help to improve their attitudes towards math by giving them a safe, comfortable environment to ask questions, share ideas, and learn from mistakes. Math builds on itself, so if a student is struggling, it usually means that some previous topic wasn't clear to them. I get to know my students and work with what they already know in order to build a foundation so new topics and be introduced and build upon.

I've build my career on helping students that are struggling with math concepts. I want all my students to see what they are capable of, and remove a lot of the fear and anxiety that often comes along with struggling in math.
