My name is Joy, and I am currently a junior at Lehigh University. I study psychology as an undergrad and am simultaneously pursuing my master's degree in elementary education. I truly have a passion for working with all types of children, and I enjoy the challenge of catering to a specific learner's goals and needs. It is my belief that building rapport and genuine relationships is a crucial quality of any successful tutoring or teaching. Therefore, I strive to be very warm and approachable in order to make sessions as pleasant and productive as possible. In the end, I want to help instill a life-long love of learning, particularly in the areas of reading and writing.
I have three years of experience working as a tutor both privately and on-site with a tutoring company. This helped me develop the ability to quickly identify needs and adjust my methods for the unique child sitting in front of me. In addition, I have worked as a teacher's assistant in local schools for the past several years, mainly working one-on-one with young students falling behind in reading. These positions all included supporting elementary and middle school-aged children in different areas of math and english. Therefore, I am absolutely capable of and willing to adapt to the individuals needs of the student, whether that means providing homework help or creating supplemental lessons to address areas of weakness.
