Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I'm chemical engineer at a major R&D instititon. I regularly conduct advanced derivations that require a TON of algebra. Having used it regularly for so many years, it is second nature to me at this point.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I’m a chemical engineer working full time in the field. I have a masters degree from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelors from the University of Kentucky. Needless to say, my life involves a lot of algebra.
Chemical Engineering

Chemical Engineering

I’ve been working in the field of chemical engineering for many years now, having worked all throughout my masters program at Johns Hopkins as well. My experience is extensive and I have remained tightly intertwined with the academic community. I love to teach and I am passionate about my field. I am extremely well versed on everything from the principles of process engineering, separations, chemical thermodynamics, reactor engineering, heat and mass transfer, and fluid dynamics. Looking forward to continuing to work with the next generation of chemical engineers!
Chemistry

Chemistry

I am a practicing chemical engineer and scientist, I have worked in chemical labs doing synthetic organic and inorganic chemistry, tons of R&D for an elite space and defense institution, built reactors, chemical processes, and currently work in the design of an advanced Gen. IV nuclear reactor. Chemistry is a fundamental component to my daily professional life, and a passion!
MATLAB

MATLAB

I have approximately 7 years of academic and professional experience using MATLAB in the context of chemical engineering. I’ve used it for everything from basic reactor kinetics modeling to full scope process simulation and application of artificial intelligence/ML to physical/chemical phenomena in a professional setting.
SAT Math

SAT Math

My math skills are rooted in a strong academic background and professional experience. I hold a master’s degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from Johns Hopkins and a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. Currently, I work in advanced nuclear reactor design, where math is a core tool I use daily. From calculus to advanced problem-solving, math is like a second language to me, and I can effectively break down concepts to make them accessible and understandable.

A highly knowledgeable tutor with a talent for teaching

I was struggling with completing problems and understanding concepts for my multivariable calculus course and differential equations course. I brought some questions to Phil, and he was able to break each problem down into simple, understandable steps. He was also able to tie mathematical theorems to bigger picture concepts. So, I now feel that I have a better understanding of not only the 'how' but also the 'why' when it comes to multi and Diff E.Q. . A tutoring session with Phil is like a personalized Khan Academy video; I highly recommend him!

A Truly Excellent Tutor - Book This Guy If You Can!!!

I have been struggling with some chemical engineering concepts related to physics and thermodynamics. Understanding these topics requires a thorough knowledge of physics, chemistry and mathematics, so, I was nervous about selecting a tutor. I feel so lucky that I found Phil, he exceeded all my expectations (seriously!). Phil has a superb understanding of chemistry, physics and mathematics, but it's clear that he also genuinely loves these subjects. During our sessions, he often comes up with creative metaphors or real life examples to explain complex concepts in an approachable and intriguing way. Phil also asks questions throughout his tutoring session to ensure that I'm following along -- and he always asks these questions with patience and follows up with positive reinforcement. Answering his questions definitely makes me feel more involved and interested in what I'm being taught and I'm certain it increases my own understanding of the subjects. Phil has a true, rare talent for teaching. He can make extremely complex topics -- like thermodynamic processes -- feel understandable and even *fun*. I'm not just saying that either, I actually mean it (which is crazy)!! If you're looking for a tutor and this guy is available, I couldn't recommend him highly enough!!!

Exactly what my daughter needs!

Another very positive lesson today! My daughter feels confident about her test. We will ask Phil for a weekly lesson, at least. :)

Well versed at adapting his teaching style to the child in front of him

Our first session was great! Phil understood quickly what my daughter needed, and the type of exchange she responded best to. She was overwhelmed before the session, and came out confident and happy from it. As an educator, I enjoyed listening to his way to communicating and sharing knowledge with my daughter who is dealing with common issues encountered by gt children. Again, a great first session. Not to mention that Phil was very flexible and accommodating!
