For fun, I went on to graduate school in Philosophy and ended up earning a Ph.D., specializing in the philosophy of language. For 20+ years after graduate school, I served as a full-time high school science teacher in Eastern Oregon and a part-time Philosophy Instructor at Boise State University. As a teacher, I received numerous awards, including National Board Certified Teacher and Teacher of the Year for my region in Oregon.

It is easy for me to do chemistry, physics, and philosophy. But as a teacher, it has always been my goal to use my skills to help others. That means understanding where my students are coming from, anticipating common difficulties, and having multiple techniques on hand to help students with varying learning styles. As a teacher and now as a tutor, I never wanted students to just get by with "good enough". Rather, I want you to build the skills and concepts you need to succeed at the highest level. The proof comes not only in your class grades but also in the confidence you exude from being excellent.

I have a lot of flexibility as a tutor. All that really matters to me is that I am providing effective help for you. Please don't hesitate to contact me. I'd love to discuss your specific tutoring needs and see how I can help.

Excellent tutor

My son had chemistry lessons from Ken. This is first time he learned chemistry. He learned a lot from him and he has more confidence on the subject now. I highly recommend Ken as a chemistry tutor!

Extraordinary experience

Ken was incredibly supportive of our son while he prepared for an extremely challenging chemistry honors final exam. After the first session, our son asked for my time with Ken. Ken patiently went through all of the materials with J over several days. We feel so lucky to have found him.

The best

Our son was able to improve his knowledge of chemistry and pass his final exam. Don’t think it would’ve been possible without Ken. A great simplifier of complexity aka teacher.

Knowledge of chemistry and high school students.

My daughter was feeling insecure right before her honors chem final. We got a last minute session with Ken and my daughter was beaming after she finished the session. She said Ken was able to explain things in a way the connected all the pieces together for her. As a bonus, he had all sorts of helpful tricks. She just walked out of her final feeling amazing. Can’t imagine a better outcome for a single lesson. I would recommend him to anyone who needs chemistry help.

Awesome Chemistry teacher

Our son encountered some difficulties in his AP Chemistry class and Ken had not only made the materials easier to understand, but Ken has inspired him to work harder. Our son is actually liking Chemistry, all thank to Ken, a very experienced teacher. Ken truly knows how to reach his students.

Very knowledgeable and patient tutor!

Professor Ken is a patient and an exceptionally knowledgeable chemistry Professor. He doesn’t make me feel dumb when I don’t understand a concept and he will explain it in different ways until it makes sense! Not everyone is an effective teacher but Professor Ken certainly is!

Excellent tutor

I learned a lot about stoichiometry, and Ken really helped me grasp mole-to-mole conversions. I’ve already scheduled another lesson so I can stay ahead in college chemistry. Thank you :)
