Hi, I’m Dr. Jacque! I hold a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania, concentrated on Biochemistry. There, I assistant taught Biochemistry, General Chemistry, and Gen Chem for Engineers; I graded for Biology lab; I tutored students in general chemistry and biochemistry; mentored undergraduate and graduate students in biochemistry, research, technical writing, data analysis; and I volunteered in a west Philly high school chemistry classroom. Before that, I received a BS in Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh where I assistant taught in various chemistry labs. After my PhD, I went on to do a postdoctoral fellowship at University of California-San Diego before pursuing a pharmaceutical research career. In summary, I formally taught at the undergraduate level for 3 years and have been informally tutored and volunteered over the course of 8 years; my students have gone on to graduate from top-tier medical schools, graduate schools, and even start their own company!

My high school chemistry teacher had a PhD and heavily influenced me to study chemistry and ultimately get a PhD myself, and I am thrilled for the opportunity to carry that inspiration forward. I adopt his teaching style, holding you to a high standard, believing that you are truly capable of subject mastery, while also meeting you where you are and breaking down concepts into their most basic parts. This has clear results: not only did I ace the AP chemistry exam, I started college as a sophomore and saved myself thousands of tuition dollars. Let’s work together to achieve your chemistry goals, whether that’s impressing the admissions board of your dream college, testing out of freshman year chemistry, or getting a leg up in organic chemistry and biochemistry—I’m here for you!

Finally, as a native of the Appalachian rust belt having worked my way through the various educational ranks, I am passionate about breaking down barriers to an elite education. I hope we have the chance to work together!

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I love algebra, and I love to simplify these first concepts on which all future STEM study depends. I loved algebra so much while I was in school that I taught myself Algebra 2 over the summer, so I tested out of the course with a perfect score!
Biochemistry

Biochemistry

During my PhD, I assistant taught 2 semesters of biochemistry to undergraduates. I conducted biochemistry research during my PhD (5 years). I also continued biochemistry research for the following 3 years in academia and pharma.
Chemistry

Chemistry

After receiving an accelerated BS in Chemistry, I went on to obtain my PhD in the chemistry department. There, I taught 2 semesters of general chemistry: an arts & sciences section and an engineering section. I also tutored undergraduates in general chemistry and volunteered in a high school classroom in West Philadelphia.
Microbiology

Microbiology

During my biochemistry PhD, I frequently utilized microbiology in my research. My thesis research relied heavily on DNA microbiology and cloning, and very frequent use of bacterial protein expression. I heavily used microbiology during my graduate research as well as my postdoctoral research, totaling over 6 years.
Writing

Writing

I have published four peer-reviewed articles in science journals in which I was the primary author. I have also written a PhD thesis. I have contributed to two more peer-reviewed articles, where I primarily edited and helped others write.
