The Ohio State University (Master's)
My fifteen years of experience tutoring began as a peer tutor at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics and continued at Duke University where I got my Bachelor of Science in mathematics. After that I earned my Master of Arts in mathematics education at Ohio State University. For the last five years I have worked as a private tutor in Washington, DC, teaching all levels of high school math from algebra to calculus.
I specialize in high school math because students often begin having trouble with the broader range of concepts and vocabulary in algebra and precalculus, which is precisely when students can learn what will be most useful to them in everyday life, such as mathematical relationships and modeling. My tutoring style is very student-led; I always want to connect to what students already know and help them build greater understanding of deep mathematical concepts as well as learning skills and processes. I love tutoring because the one-on-one interaction is the best way to catalyze students' problem-solving skills and truly engage with the conceptual underpinnings of mathematical endeavors.
My teaching style is focused on helping students construct their own unique understanding of the relevant concepts. I encourage students to use a variety of problem-solving techniques in order to explore their own approaches.

Anne has a been a wonderful help for my son getting back into the groove of doing Algebra problems. She worked with him on several beginning assessments and a project helping him understand the language of algebra and how to tackle problems. She is very personable and flexible in her availability!
Anne was very dependable and super flexible when it came to her schedule. She was even willing to Facetime when we couldn't find a day to meet. She helped my daughter in AP Statistics and I would highly recommend her!
Anne brings an amazing energy to her sessions. She makes you feel comfortable as a student, and is great at explaining difficult concepts in an easy-to-understand way.
Anne used practical terms to explain geometry questions my daughter was working on. She worked well with my daughter and gave her good tools to use for problem solving. Anne took her time and explained problems thoroughly , and was patient with me daughter.
She is patient and explains the materials step by step with examples. She has helped me with understanding the materials and solving problems myself with ease. Anne truly knows her stuff. I am grateful to have her.
Anne is great. Very reliable and dedicated to helping students learn. Highly recommend her. Teaches to the students level but also elevates them. Very helpful.
Anne has really been instrumental in helping me to not make statistics harder than it is. The analogies she uses help me relate the material to things in everyday life.
She was patient and offered many explainations so that he could understand. My son felt confident going into his exam. We will continue to use her going forward.
Anne gave me hope of passing College Algeba. As a 50 year old college student, Algebra has been my biggest challenge. I must pass this course to complete my BS degree and Anne has given me hope!
Anne helped create a great learning environment and has already helped me feel more confident in my exam preparation in a very short period of time. I am looking forward to additional sessions as I prepare for the AP exam.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have over 15 years of experience tutoring algebra 2 for high school and college students.
