Having graduated with Honors with a double major in History and Philosophy of Science as well as Studio Art from the University of Chicago and attended the rigorous college preparatory school, Hackley, I am well versed in the ins and outs of tough academic institutions and how to navigate them. I recently completed a Master's in Fine Arts with a certificate in Curatorial Studies at Hunter College where I spent time as a teaching assistant at a graduate level. Through all my academic experience I have found that I learn the most from teachers who are truly passionate about their subjects, and my hope in tutoring is to help students learn the subjects I am most passionate about which continue to be biology and art.

My academic studies, especially the common core taught at the University of Chicago, have familiarized me with a broad depth of subjects and I have helped students in the past with research and writing. Whether you are struggling with an AP test, having trouble with a scientific or art historical paper, or want to learn to draw or paint, my goal is to show students how to unlock their own enthusiasm for these often daunting subjects.

At the University of Chicago I focused on biology, evolutionary ecology, and anatomy and worked for three years after college at the Field Museum of Natural History, where I aided in education programs geared towards making research science accessible to high school students. I eventually studied History and Philosophy of Science, which incorporates philosophy and sociology into looking at science on a broader level and through this I honed my research and writing skills.

I recently graduated from Hunter College with a Masters in Fine Arts and have been studying art since I was a child, I am well versed in most art processes especially painting, drawing and sculpting and have been a teaching assistant at the graduate level. I have broad knowledge of art theory and art history as well.

Art History

Art History

For both my undergraduate degree in Visual Art as well as my MFA I have taken and excelled at many art history courses. I love researching and writing about art history and art theory. I have spent time as a teaching assistant at the graduate level helping with grading art writing and so I am familiar with what professors are expecting in their students writing.
Art Theory

Art Theory

My education in art at the University of Chicago was largely theoretical and my studies in Philosophy of Science overlapped with Art Theory. During my graduate time at Hunter College I elected to take an almost equal amount of Art Theory and Criticism courses. Art Theory is also the basis for most of the work done in contemporary MFA programs and I was a teaching assistant at the graduate level in classes proficient in it.
Drawing

Drawing

I have been studying art since I was a small child and have been trained in life drawing, contour drawing, and scientific illustration. I have taught workshops with younger children, high school students and have been a teaching assistant in drawing at the graduate level. I enjoy working with students of all skill levels and am happy to help with more rigorous aspects of drawing such as 3 point perspective and using technical pens, or with more abstract and conceptual ways of approaching drawing from non-traditional angles. I believe that drawing can be an amazing foundation and form of expression weather it be manga cartoons or photorealistic charcoal drawings.
Painting

Painting

I have been painting since I was a small child and have been trained in the use of watercolors, oil paints and acrylics. I have taught workshops in painting to children of all ages and have been a teaching assistant at the graduate level. Whether you are interested in the technical aspects of how oil paint works and it's historical significance, or just want to know the best type of paper for your watercolors I cater my teaching to each students needs and desires. I am also trained in the safety aspects of painting and always instruct my students in the best practices for safely using often hazardous chemicals while maintaining a fun atmosphere.
