I am a graduate of the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk!) with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology (1999) and have an Associates in Nursing (GPA 4.0) from Jamestown Community College in 2014. I am a graduate of the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk!) with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology (1999) and have an Associates in Nursing (GPA 4.0) from Jamestown Community College in 2014. My first love for learning and teaching started in high school with a teacher who had an abundance of enthusiasm for science. After college, I was offered a teaching position at a private school. For 6 years I taught Jr High sciences & Biology along with some math. My experience as a teacher has helped me educate my patients (while working at my local hospital), their families and new nurses starting their jobs. I enjoy nursing, but I love education!

I am very motivated to help RN and LPN students with med math (nursing medication math, dosage calculations, dimensional analysis, drip rates, drop factors) and have a systematic way to teach that requires no formulas to memorize and gives the student confidence that they have the right answer. Many of my dosage calculation students come in to their first lesson stressed and leave feeling much better. I also enjoy helping nurses more fully comprehend subjects in fundamentals and med surg classes (alkalosis vs acidosis, important heart EKG rhythms, and other topics).

Math is a world of rules, logic and some flexible thinking. I am able to break down concepts so they are easier to understand and lead the student using what they have learned. I understand how some students get scared of math and hope to help them work through those feelings using the philosophy that mistakes made are learning in action. No one gets everything right the first time!

I like Chemistry even more as an adult than I did as a teenager! I am most comfortable tutoring General Chemistry, but if content is sent to me ahead of time, I am often able to help with Advanced Chemistry (for example: AP Chem). I had the opportunity to take the TEAS test for nursing school and to tutor and help prepare other students (through a California online tutoring company) for the TEAS test. I enjoy tutoring the math and science portions the most! (My TEAS Scores with no prepping: Math Individual National Rank 99%, Science Individual National Rank 93% - FYI: Grammar is not my strength! ;-) I really enjoy working with students!
