GOAL:

To help learners formulate essays that respect complexity and ambiguity--high-quality papers that engage with readings, the issues they introduce, and the various viewpoints we use to understand them.

APPROACH:

My sessions are tailored to accommodate a learner's specific needs and learning style. I guide them through each step of the essay-writing process--from the first steps (reading and notetaking), to the final touches (proofreading and formatting). I focus on: reading comprehension, refining grammar, sentence structure, crafting arguments, outlining, and using quotes and textual evidence

Corning is an open admissions institution, where I gained a wealth of experience tutoring a diverse group of writers that included traditional, adult, ESL, and developmental students. I completed a tutor training program, while at Corning--which is Level I certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). To earn certification, I completed twelve hours of training, a one-credit tutor training class, and twenty-five hours of tutoring. I exceeded the number of training hours, excelled in the course, and by the end of my employment with the SUNY writing center, I had forty hours of tutoring under my belt. I was hired as a writing consultant with the Institute for Writing Studies at St. John's University in 2010. St. John's is a multi-cultural institution of higher learning. In my capacity as a writing consultant in this institution, I have gained a considerable amount of experience--working with ESL students from different nations and a variety of backgrounds.

It is through my role as a writing consultant that I am able to maximize the academi

Very Patient and Informative

Erick was very helpful and patient with me. He took the time to hear my situation about my class and helped me out. He taught me some pointers about writing and I am very grateful.
