APPROACH:
My sessions are tailored to accommodate a learner's specific needs and learning style. I guide them through each step of the essay-writing process--from the first steps (reading and notetaking), to the final touches (proofreading and formatting). I focus on: reading comprehension, refining grammar, sentence structure, crafting arguments, outlining, and using quotes and textual evidence
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
I have been tutoring at the college level for four years. I first began as a peer-tutor at a State University of New York Community College (Corning-cc). Corning is an open admissions institution, where I gained a wealth of experience tutoring a diverse group of writers that included traditional, adult, ESL, and developmental students. I completed a tutor training program, while at Corning--which is Level I certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). To earn certification, I completed twelve hours of training, a one-credit tutor training class, and twenty-five hours of tutoring. I exceeded the number of training hours, excelled in the course, and by the end of my employment with the SUNY writing center, I had forty hours of tutoring under my belt. I was hired as a writing consultant with the Institute for Writing Studies at St. John's University in 2010. St. John's is a multi-cultural institution of higher learning. In my capacity as a writing consultant in this institution, I have gained a considerable amount of experience--working with ESL students from different nations and a variety of backgrounds.
