I am a retired chemistry professor. I have 37 years of experience teaching college-level chemistry including high school students through a “college in the schools” program. My interests, training, and teaching experience make me best suited to give help with chemistry, physics, and mathematics courses at the high school through college levels.
Throughout my teaching career, I have always made myself available to students for individual help. I feel that I have been most successful teaching in that setting, effectively as a tutor. When working with a student, I try to understand a their thinking so I can help clear up misconceptions and know better how to tailor a lesson to the individual. I am very patient; if one approach doesn't work, I try others until I find one that does.
I have a PhD in chemistry from the University of Chicago and most of my work as a teacher has been with college students at the freshman and sophomore levels. Through my work in a "college in the schools” program, I also have experience with high school students.
