Hello, I'm John! I have a strong passion for science. Here is a little bit of my background: I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Integrative Physiology with a minor in chemistry from Alma College. Research played an important role in my undergraduate career, but I also committed to taking rigorous coursework which has helped make me a better teacher to future generations. Currently, I am pursuing my PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology. My research involves the integration of Immunology, Cancer Biology, and Bioinformatics in developing better ways to treat cancer. I also love to help people learn. I have been a tutor for over five years. I am experienced in working with students from the Elementary School level, all the way up to Graduate and Medical Students.
From my experience teaching students with a broad range of learning styles, I am able to create a lesson plan that is unique to each individual. My expertise includes biology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, chemistry, and biochemistry. I have experience tutoring small groups of 3-5 students, although I prefer to work with individual students since everyone has a different learning style and pace.
My teaching style utilizes several techniques including inquiry-based instruction, visualization, and spaced repetition. These techniques are especially helpful for exam preparation and learning abstract biological and chemical concepts which are often difficult to grasp. I would love to benefit you in any way possible! Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson.
