I'm Erik. In the 7th grade, I found my passion: helping other people learn and understand math! I loved being the person that everyone else went to when they had a math question or math problem. I knew that it what I wanted to do with my life. I went to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and majored in mathematics and received my teaching certificate. I started teaching right after I graduated and have been teaching and tutoring for more than 10 years! I have taught pretty much every mathematics course that High Schools offer, from Pre-Algebra all the way to AP Calculus AB.
I have heard countless times throughout my many years of teaching and tutoring when I get students for the first time, "I am just not good at math." How untrue! They simply do not understand math, YET. This is where I come in :) Math is amazing in that it is always rational and sensible (if you have enough background information). There is a reason for everything we do in mathematics. I show students the reasons behind what is happening, not just a bunch of formulas and rules to memorize, so that students then can understand math. I relate mathematical concepts to things students already know and have real-world experience with to make better connections. These connections and understandings allow students to be successful when they previously may not have been.
I first started officially tutoring mathematics when I was in High School. I continued tutoring mathematics in college and have not stopped. Most of the students I tutor are looking to do better in their current math classes and I have mostly provided help in Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, Calculus, and IB Mathematics as that is what I have been teaching lately. I have also tutored students in the summer to keep their math skills sharp for the upcoming school year, as well as students preparing for the SAT (I consistently score a perfect 800 on the SAT math section and know a lot about how the test works). I love helping people achieve success on whatever
