I have three years of continuous experience as a departmental chemistry tutor in a group setting at a top-ranked public university, as well as one-on-one experience tutoring high school and college-aged students in various maths and sciences both virtually and face-to-face. I particularly enjoy tutoring college-level biology, chemistry, and genetics.
My goal as a tutor is not simply to increase measured grades (although that is significant), but also to truly increase my students' understanding and appreciation of the topic(s) being studied. I was trained in the Socratic method, and I use guiding questions of escalating difficulty and side-by-side problem-solving to simultaneously build confidence and understanding. I have attended seminars in tutoring and mentoring focused on learning styles and cultural awareness, and I adapt my teaching style slightly to meet each student's individual needs.
