Hi! I'm Sandy. I attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in English Literature and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Science and Rhetoric. During this time, I was employed as a writing tutor, assisting college students with drafting and editing term papers on a variety of topics. The type of assistance provided ranged from simple editing to complete drafting of papers. As a part of my degree, I also wrote and submitted a Senior Honors thesis analyzing feminism in the works of playwright William Shakespeare. Additionally, I served as a Communications Intern for a state senator, helping to draft social media posts, press releases and newsletters on behalf of the senator.
After university, I earned my Juris Doctor (JD) with a concentration in health law from Saint Louis University School of Law. During this time, I assisted with researching and drafting various policy paper related to healthcare law. I am currently employed as an attorney in Maryland at a civil rights firm, commonly drafting legal briefs and policy papers related to disability rights.
Much of my experience with teaching and tutoring is in a 1:1 nature. I understand that writing can be a difficult task and I strive to ensure that students ultimately find the joy that can come from being able to write effectively and efficiently. I cater each of my sessions to the strengths and weaknesses of each student and commonly do not apply the same approach to all of my students. Most importantly, I listen to what the student hopes to get out of each session and work to understand their goals. I let the student guide the process.
I know how important teachers are in ensuring that students find a passion. Much of my love for writing has come from my excellent professors who clearly showcased their love for the art in the way they taught. I'm easy to reach and very responsive to questions and concerns. Feel free to reach out if you believe that I may be the right fit for you!
