Summer is the time to work on your college essay!

For the past 8 years, I have taught high school English and helped students get into Ivy League schools and Honors programs around the country, and I genuinely love helping with this assignment. Summer is the time to work on your college essay!

For the past 8 years, I have taught high school English and helped students get into Ivy League schools and Honors programs around the country, and I genuinely love helping with this assignment. My approach is simple, straight-forward, and focused on you as the writer: we will work together to brainstorm, talk about ideas, and workshop what kind of image you want to portray about yourself. Once we've generated some potential ideas, we'll work through them to talk about which ones can turn into great essays. From here, you'll move into the drafting process - I'll guide you with the general structure, but the initial product has to come from you so that your voice is prioritized throughout the entire essay. After you've written your first draft, I will work on your essay to offer suggestions, tips, and assistance with cutting/adding words where necessary. After you incorporate this feedback into your second draft, I will go through with a fine-tooth comb to clean up any grammatical, phrasing, or clarity issues and confirm your word count, leaving you with a polished, PERSONAL, and well-written essay to send to schools. We can also repeat these steps as many times as necessary until you are thrilled with your final product!

This approach has worked with hundreds of former students, and I can guarantee that you will walk away from our sessions with an essay you are proud of. With the explosion of AI this school year, colleges are looking for more than just words on a page - they want to hear who you are as a person, and this approach ensures that you are the focal point of your essay and that you sound like you throughout the piece.

Since summer is a busy time for everyone, I like to incorporate a blend of synchronous and asynchronous sessions to best utilize our time for the college essay. I recommend a minimum of 5 sessions (3 brainstorming and planning/synchronous; 2 draft editing/asynchronous) to achieve the best final product.
